“A wonderful house in beautiful surroundings”
Reviewed August 21, 2012 for a stay in August 2012

The house is beautifully decorated and furnished and is set in magical surroundings; the peace, quiet and tranquility are amazing. Helen is so helpful and friendly and made every effort to make our stay as good as possible. She gave us a fantastic tour of the vineyard and wine tasting. We spent a week here and both of us have never felt so relaxed. The house is lovely and spacious so we spent much time just relaxing and reading and cooking in the very well equipped kitchen. Eating in the garden that leads onto the vineyard was lovely. We also ventured into Bordeaux for antiques shopping, sunbathed and swam in a nearby lake with a sand beach and went to one of the numerous night markets in the area. You can do as much as you want or as little as you want here and still have a wonderful holiday. We loved it here and hope to go back!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of the holiday house at Chateau de Claribes. We're so pleased you found your holiday relaxing and enjoyed the surroundings as well as the facilities in the house.

We particularly appreciate the suggestions you made about how we could improve the bedding and facilities to make a stay more comfortable during extremely hot weather - I think it was mostly around 40°C whilst you were here!. We have already provided the light weight cotton sheets - I'm sure this addition will provide more flexibility for bed coverings in the hot weather, alongside the summer grade duvets. We have bought electric fans to help keep the air circulating in the bedrooms as you suggested and we'll buy sun loungers for the garden as soon as they're available in the shops in summer 2013!

Thanks again for taking time to e-mail the suggestions - they're very helpful.

We very much look forward to seeing you again!

“An excellent stay in a super property”
Reviewed July 2, 2012 for a stay in June 2012

We have stayed in several Gites over the years and this was one of the best. Helen and Nick are excellent hosts and the holiday home has all the facilities you could wish for.
The wines made here are very good and staying on a working wine estate is very instructive. The location between Aquitaine and The Dordogne means there is no shortage of places to visit.

“A magical place and fantastic people”

We travelled down to Claribes by Eurostar , which was very hassle free (tip - get your Paris Metro tickets at St Pancras station, it makes it a lot easier). We then hired a car at Bordeaux station. Claribes is a tiny hamlet near Gensac (the restaurant at Les Ramparts is well worth a visit), and it's only a short drive from Saint Emillion.

The house has been recently renovated, and is truely beautiful, the kitchen has everything you need, there is a lovely big table for social meals and the bedrooms are basicly, but beautifully furnished (there are 2 double rooms and a sofa bed downstairs if needed). Waking up to sunrise in the mornings will be something we never forget.

Helen and Nick were incredibly welcoming, and made the stay at Claribes all the more memorable and special. Their wine is fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed trying various bottles over the weekend! We would definitely recommend both their wine and a stay at Chateau de Claribes - we can't wait to return!

Hi. Thanks for taking the time to send your review comments. We bought a high chair, very similar to the one you recommended and it's been successfully used! Since your stay, we've installed a television and DVD/CD player. As well as the games, books and travel guides in the holiday house, visitors can also borrow DVDs from our extensive collection.
