“Peaceful and romantic!!!”
Reviewed August 9, 2012

If you want to relax after backpacking for a few months, I highly recommend staying in La Qhia. They call it a hostel, but it is on the verge of a nice hotel, in my opinion. The owner is nice, and the employees are great and make beautiful jewelry. Even though we stayed in the dorm room, it was still a romantic place just because it is beautiful there and there is a huge landscaped lawn where it's nice to do yoga or just relax. There's hammocks and tables and chairs in an outdoor hangout area, and the covered outdoor kitchen is beautiful with lots of counter space. The best thing is that it is so clean and one of the best deals of our 4 month trip.

Room Tip: The room we stayed in was a dorm that fit 8 people. It was still great. There are multiple bathrooms...

Close to the bus station. Close to the one internet cafe. Managed by a friendly, knowledgeable Canadian. Good breakfasts that are not included in the room rate. I paid $33.50 or thereabouts for a night in the house, and that didn't work out too well--the room was warm, and there was no fan or A/C, plus the bathroom, while clean, was shared. I then paid five bucks more for the one private room, and that was magnificent. Comfortable bed, fan, private bath with great shower pressure and all the hot water you could ever need. Does not accept credit cards. Lots of info available on-hand for Santa Fe activities. Woman living right across the street will do laundry for a pittance. If you go, make sure you book that private room in advance!

You can tell right from the first steps in the garden that the place is tended with a lot of love an care. The plants are colorful, the garden is big, there is a patio with hammocks and the building
has personality. You can get clear information on hikes and adventures from their folder and map and Donna is great and informative as well.
The only negative for me is that there is no wi-fi or computer to use but if you know ahead maybe
you can take a break from it. :) I managed. LOL
There is an internet place somewhere near.

This is a very beautiful quiet place to stay. The rooms, common area, and kitchen were totally spotless. The stove wasn't working when we were there, but we had our own so not a big deal. The kitchen has lots of cooking utensils, pots, pans and a good size (clean!!!) fridge.

There was no wifi- which was the only disappointment for us.

Rooms upstairs were basic but comfortable, came with mosquito nets so you could leave the windows open and enjoy the breeze. For us, the rooms were a little expensive, but not compared to the rest of Panama. The rooms are surrounded by bamboo which looks nice, but isn't great at keeping out the noise. When we were there, people were respectful and used the cooking common area, so people going to bed early weren't distrurbed.

Highly recommended for a place to stay in Santa Fe.

Room Tip: Rooms upstairs near the balcony have a great breeze, but may be noisy if people are hanging out on t...

We traveled to Panama last month for a week's stay and had planned to spend one night at the Hostel La Qhia in the Veraguas Province of Panama. When we arrived the staff were all so friendly, and the accommodations so relaxing and enjoyable we ended up changing our plans and staying three nights. We will definitely stay there again when we go back. Absolutely loved it.

The staff went out of their way to help us find the resources we needed and offered loads of ideas for things to do while in the area. Stephanie and her staff were just marvelous.

And we really appreciated the reasonable price of the room.

Room Tip: Bring your own soap. The soap they have in the rooms made my skin feel tacky (but it was the same s...

My friend and I came here to get away from the city for a weekend. The rooms were clean (we stayed in the dorm room $11). The hostel staff were extremely helpful, the location was wonderful, and the garden spectacular. We had a lovely experience staying at Hostal La Qhia.

La Qhia is the obvious top choice for lodging in Santa Fe. After walking around town and checking out the few options available, we stumbled upon La Qhia and they luckily had a room available. The place is very unique and perfect for those checking out the quaint mountain town. Perfectly located just a few blocks from the center of town, from here you have easy access to hiking, watefalls, swimming holes and dining.
