We stayed for four nights, and, even during the off season, received a warm welcome. Both breakfasts and dinners were delicious (best spring rolls and curry ever!) and very enjoyable while looking over the mountains. Seating is available inside and outside, and we chose the view outside whether we were eating or relaxing. Their garden is amazing and filled with both fruits, vegetables and flowers. Marnix was extremely helpful directing us to the local hiking areas as well as assisting with where to go in town for information. Santa Fe is a small, quaint town and we loved getting away from everything.

This is a small and fairly new hotel outside the town of Santa Fe de Veraguas. I think there were 4 or 5 rooms, all facing the vista across the valley. Ridiculously scenic. I'm not a hammock person, but I did sit on the veranda just staring at the mountains w/ a cool beverage in the evenings. For those so inclined, there are hammocks. The garden is coming in nicely, and provides produce for the meals. Speaking of, breakfast was very good. Dinner at the onsite restaurant was also excellent--the only Cambodian restaurant in all of Panama, I'm told. And an excellent one at that. Sadly our schedule was such that they weren't serving dinner the day we arrived (Tues), so next time we'll have to make sure to adjust the schedule accordingly.

Our room was quite spacious, w/ a queen bed and a bunkbed. The bathroom was lovely as well. Fresh flowers were provided in the room. We didn't have occasion to use the bunkbed but the main bed was comfy. Wifi was strong. Water pressure good. Everything very clean.

The owners have a friend who gives an excellent Thai massage, for only $15 an hour! They can arrange an appointment for you--she comes to the hotel. You should definitely do it.

There's a dog and cat on the premises, but they aren't allowed into the rooms. I'm badly allergic and didn't have any problem. They will stop by to say hello, and will accept scritches from those who are inclined.

The owners are very nice, and speak excellent English. And probably several other languages as well; certainly Spanish and Dutch and Cambodian. We had a guide w/ us, so didn't need them to help us get around, but Marnix certainly seemed like he would be able to direct guests to the best birdwatching or whathaveyou.

Lest you think the place was completely perfect ;-), I found it a little dark in the room at night when trying to find things in the suitcase. Could use an additional lamp. But we had flashlights w/ us for night birding, so I survived. :)

Thank you for such a nice review! Great to see high school friends still travelling together many years later. I hope you enjoyed the birding too. Say hi to Ken.

Just stayed for 3 nights here and it was just great. My gf and I arrived late and in the dark, we woke up in the morning with a stunning view of the surrounding mountains and their very nicely maintained gardens.

The rooms are expansive, simple, and clean. The bathrooms are also big, clean and have really nice mosaic work on the showers.

The owners/chefs/tour guides/real estate agents are nice, helpful, and really knowledgable of the Santa Fe area.

If you haven't had good food in a long time and love Asian cuisine this is the place to be, simply amazing Cambodian food!

A must go if staying in Santa Fe.

Sineth and Marnix' hospitality at Anachoreo was like family, after a lot of travel time they made sure we felt right at home. Anachoreo not only provides an affordable place to stay, but great Cambodian food and a spectacular view of the mountains over their hortaliza. The hotel has just the right amount of comfort and convenience to still keep that friendly hostel feel. Sineth's cooking is just out of this world and she makes a mean Malibu mango punch too! Rooms are comfortable and spacious with a standard issued hammock right outside your door. Marnix can draw a mean map of the town and put you in contact with any of the local attractions.

Room Tip: All rooms come with a hammock, a beautiful view of the mountains and clouds over the garden. Can...

Dear Luis & Lynn,

It is not often we meet travellers who do so much for developing tourism besides simply spending a few nights. What can I say, pictures, blogposts, stories - wow. Hopefully Chon and Maria will pass by so I can show them to. It will also help on my project of making an inventory of activities in this area. All the best on your travels!

It's not every day you get to eat gourmet Cambodian (similar to Thai) and sip a Duvel in the foothills of the Cordillera Central looking out over the valley as the sun goes down. The only negative, if you consider it to be one, is that Anachoreo can be a little hard to find. Check their website for detailed driving instructions, and have a vehicle with some clearance.

Loved every minute!

Room Tip: Sound carries; try to get a room on the end.

We stayed in Santa Fe but not at this B&B. We were recommended by a friend to eat there. We went in the evening and met the owner who took our order, a Dutch man. He is married to a lovely Cambodian lady who really can cook!!
The crispy spring rolls were delicious and was followed by the best Thai curry that I have ever had. All the vegetables and herbs are grown fresh in the garden. I followed theis with the chocolate mouse, again delicious.
My wife had chicken satay and she knows a good one as she is Dutch also. She said it was really good. A few beers and then we chatted for a while at the bar. Wonderful food, it truly was. We would stay there if we go to the area again as there are lovely views and I am told a great breakfast too.

Room Tip: We did not stay for the night but I believe all rooms are similar.

Thanks Bill & Mieke,

We love to receive you guys next time you manage to get away from the city. There are still 6 dishes more to try out and many more beers. Funny how you said it, the best Thai curry is Cambodian curry. Sineth had a good laugh.

We only came for 1 dinner, but that was a very nice experience of its own. The restaurant is located in a large round room with extremely high ceilings resembling more of a temple settings. There were just 2 big tables in the whole room and very basic furnishing (make your reservation!). The food was delicious, very spicy Asian meal. It is run by a Cambodian-Dutch couple (she cooks, he waits) and it is very different from anything else I have seen in Panama, in a good sense. An unforgettable experience. The only trick is to find it as they are located a bit outside town, within a walking distance, but off the main road. Just a small lamp indicates the passage, best to ask locals. Bring your own light for the way.
