“Newest and most decent Hotel that Hospet has to offer”
Reviewed March 21, 2011

Hampi and Hospet unfortunately do not offer much choice in hotels. Most of established chains in India have yet to find their way here. Royal Orchid seem to be the first to have taken the initiative. This hotel is a five minute ride from the Station which makes it a convienent location to get off and on the train. However the sites at Hampi are an hour's drive away but as Hampi itself has very little to offer, a stay here and a ride to the sights is definately worth it... Plenty of parking space and open grounds. Facade and entrance, lobby and public areas a tad garish. However rooms are large, clean, air-conditioned and well appointed for a four star hotel. Food was overall good and presented well. The hotel packed an excellent dinner for us for our night train journey.Service was very good, and the General Manager personally saw to all our needs.

We visited Hampi as a special trip this January for my wife's birthday. We stayed at the new 5 star property of Royal Orchid at Hospet, its clearly the best hotel in town. Its new and modern and well appointed with latest facilities. The rooms are reasonably sized and good fittings and my kids loved the central control touch panel for all the lighting and power. The restaurant, Limelight (Ginseng is not yet operational) is pretty good with attentive staff, though the food is a wee bit short of the quality of Limelite in Royal Orchid on Old Airport Rd, B'lore. The swimming pool at the back is nice and there is a gym too. All in all a good experience. The price is about OK since its a 5 star but they should do special packages.

Royal Orchid Kireeti truly give you a Royal experience. The rooms are tastefully decorated, service is impeccable.

Restaurant had nice spread and staff were helpful and courteous, special thanks to Supratim,Manjeet, Pradeep,Vimal,Suman of F&B and Shirshendu , Shilpa of front Desk for making our stay pleasant.
However, therewere a few things which management needs to look into.
Foremost, the housekeeping has a bit to catchup, we found the previous guest had left biscut wrapper in the bedside drawer, however it was not cleaned out. It is also difficult to reach them over intercom and most of the time call gets diverted to frontdesk who then promptly convey the message. Change room in the pool area doesn't have locker, the shower there also doesn't work properly.

Overall it was a good experience and we surely will lookout for a Royal Orchid Chain of hotels whereever we travel next.

This hotel has started operations recently (maybe a few months ago) and it shows in the training and confidence levels of their staff. Service level was the biggest let down for us, otherwise may have given them a "very good" rating.
A few examples:
1. We left the "make up my room" sign on, but it wasn't done. We had to remind them when we came back in the evening. Then it took 3 very 'slow' housekeeping staff around 20-25 minutes to change the sheets and clean up.
2. We ordered a couple of items for room service and one dish wasn't delivered at all. Had to call them and point out the exclusion.
3. Restaurant staff were generally friendly, but some of them had not been in the business of waiting tables for long!
4. We expected the hotel to have a travel desk willing to dish out useful information to help folks like us who wanted to do Hampi without any fancy assistance, but it wasn't available. The lobby/reception staff were surprisingly not very knowledgeable about Hampi, maybe they weren't local people or maybe I talked to the wrong person.

The hotel has good rooms (because its brand new), a good swimming pool, a couple of decent restaurant options were listed, although we only ate their buffet options. The town of Hospet doesn't have any area with a premium feel to it, and the hotel's surrounding area consequently can't be explained very flatteringly, so paying for the room charges that are just a notch below what you would expect to pay in major cities of India is definitely a sour point! My guess is that the hotel mgmt know that they don't have competition in the city and can skim the high paying tourist.

Overall a decent option if you don't mind paying in excess of 6K a night and can ignore the (at some level mildly funny) service gaffes!!
