We stayed one night in this beautiful little Italian village of Castelbianco.

Our hosts welcomed us warmly and gave us all the pointers we needed to find our way in their countryside.

The house itself has been renovated with state of the art equipment and excellent taste and respect for traditional style. The view on the valley from the bedroom was superb.

Our room was immaculate, cozy & beautiful - not to mention incredibly comfortable. We were able to relax & have a restful night's sleep before heading down for breakfast in the morning.

The breakfast was also a great pleasure - all delicious products which were either homemade, such as the delicious apple cake and incredible home made fruit juices from the owners' orchard, or locally produced items like: prosciutto, cheese & jams.

We recommend this B&B to anybody staying or passing through the region.

My wife and I are Americans living in Italy, so we were looking for an out-of-the-ordinary vacation with another couple who are close friends of ours. We stumbled upon La Casa dei Nonni (House of the Grandparents) through a website, and were extremely pleased with our stay. The town (Castebianco) is about 20 minutes by car from the coast, but is itself in the hills. You can stay at the B&B or rent your own private apartment (which is what we did, so we could save money by cooking our own meals). We did pay to have breakfast there one day, which was homemade by the owners Andrea and Mariarosa (Andrew & Rosemary), who are a great young couple. And although we know a bit of Italian, we didn't actually need to because Andrea speaks perfect English.

Based from the B&B, you are 20 minutes from the beach or two amazing Italian coastal towns (Alassio & Albenga). We also took a day trip into the French Riviera because it's less than an hour away by car.

The town of Castelbianco (where the B&B is) is amazing as well. There are many hiking trails that are all signed really well and marked with colored arrows. And though a large part of the city has been rebuilt by the locals, a part remains in ruins, which gives you an amazing view into the past. Really though, it's amazing.

In short, I would highly recommend this place and in fact plan to return myself. There are few drawbacks, if any. If we were to go again, we would probably not share the apartment with another couple, since there was not a lot of privacy between the two bedrooms (though it would be perfect for a family of 4 to 6). Also, the town is only accessable by car (no public transportation).

We spent 4 nights in one of the apartments - the Casa del Ciliegio (Cherry House) connected to the bed and breakfast. Our stay was charming in every way.

Castelbianco was a surprising find - we didn't know what to expect before coming. It is peaceful and quiet, yet affords you the ability to do such a variety of fun things. You can easily access the beach, drive into France (Menton is close and adorable), or just stay in Castelbianco and hike the many mountain trails. The variety made our vacation especially satisfying.

Andrea and Maria Rosa were excellent hosts. The apartment was spotless and well appointed. The furnishings were cozy and cute, like a home away from home.

The beds were comfortable, and the kitchen was perfectly equipped to make simple meals and snacks. We had breakfast one morning next door at the bed and breakfast. It was delightful. We left with several jars of their homemade jam and plum juice, which were both delicious.

It was such a relaxing trip, we plan on coming back.
