“Great anal park On edge of Lake District”

Go in winter and get in by donation. Go Easter through summer and its good value for money. Walk through animal enclosures and feed some of the animals, check out the big cats, get close up to the penguins and maybe even pet a snake. Fun and interesting place to visit.

“A zoo, with a good mix of exotic animals, a zoo with a difference.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

Hippos, Rhinos, Giraffes, Lions, Tigers, Penguins, Otters, Black Bears, Spider Monkeys, Reindeer,Baboons, Mandrill, Bats, Fox, White rhino,Peacocks, Flamingos, Swans, Emus, Gibbons, wallaby, Black Lemor, Mongoose Lemur, Red Lemur, Ring Tailed Lemur, Aloatran Lemur, Brown Lemur, Condors, Tamarins, Marmosets,Tapir, Macaws, Belted Lemurs, Ibis , Tamarin, Capybaras, squirrels monkeys, Pacas, Sloths, Egrets, Snow Lepord, Jaguar, Tortoises, Storks, Spoonbills, Marmots, Swans, and a collection of parrots and related birds,........perhaps I cannot name all the animals I saw.

I visited this zoo yesterday, 6th May with family and family friends. Early birds can get to park close to the entrance ;). Each area has elevated ramps and ground level access giving a different visual of animals and their enclosures a good view. The zoo is different to all other zoos. The exotic nature of animals on show is the uniqueness of the zoo. Its part zoo and part walk-safari. There are a few enclosures, where most of the exotic lemurs, kangaroos, wallabys, swans, peacocks, flamingos, monkeys, Emus etc are let to walk around freely and a walking path carved in middle of their terrain. When you are walking around these animals are free to cross your path and you are advised no to touch any animals, strictly. The aviary, has a lot of birds and again, its allows visitors to walk about in the aviary, allowing birds to fly around freely and one can observe them happily. The zoo is built around the natural land shape, i.e it has not been levelled to make a flat-levelled zoo, and this natural ground variation gives animals a naturality of the wild. For a visitor, spending 4-5 hours in the zoo, it is a managable terrain to watch animals in their natural kind of terrain.

The Dining area next to the restaurant is well equipped seating arrangements. The Restrooms are clean and simple. Ice-cream shop, restaurant, gift shop and a miniature train all add to the zoo's features.

If you went on their website www.wildanimalpark.co.uk, you can customise your visit to suit the feeding times of the animals. You are allowed to feed some animals safely.

The Penguins and otters are very active and have viewing windows from ground level as well as elevated ramps to watch them from above.

Tip - Strollers and push chairs are not allowed into the area with all exotic animals. THere is a small pushchair parking near the entrance opposite the restaurant and gift shop. You can have a round trip and get back there. If you were to enter this enclosure from the Tiger viewing ramp, then, take the first left after entering the enclosure and that leads down to the pram parking. But watch out for the busy emus walking up and down this path.

For kids, this zoo is very educative and great day out. If you start early, you will have enough time to visit Windermere South shore and spend time on a short/ half lake ride on a ferry.. Or perhaps visit other attractions like the Lakeland Miniature Village in Flookburgh.

“South lakes animal park”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2013 via mobile

We had a wonderful day out, the prices are reasonable I think and the kids loved it. Both our children thought it was the best animal park they had been to and they are 11 and 14! The animals had loads of open space and it was wonderful to see lots of different animals in one area. There isn't a huge range of animals but to be able to walk so close to most of them was fun.. Especially the squirrel monkeys who kept trying to steal from people's bags!

“half a day of animal fun”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2013

We had a fab half-day with our 4 and 5 year olds. They loved the real animals and the statue animals! It's the closest we've found in the UK to the Australian model of wandering through animal enclosures. Obviously the dangerous animals are in proper enclosures but there is one part where there are lemurs, emus, kangaroos, wallabies, donkeys all wandering freely. The favourite of the day was the penguins - a great view from either the raised walkway or through the glass. We are members of Chester Zoo and we thought this park was laid out in a much more animal friendly manner. It was expensive to get in (over £40 for four) so it was pretty annoying that everything else had a charge attached to it - £1 to feed the giraffes, extra for a map (didn't buy). Either print the map off the internet before you go, otherwise make do with the signage around the park.
