The more casual, chilled sister of the Red Restaurant at the Therme hotel, and a good alternative. Ambience is rustic Swiss (does not equal cheap) and there was an interesting display of photography when we visited,
A four course dinner, rather than six, and the wine list only had tens instead of hundreds of wines...
The quality of the food was just as good: local, seasonal, creative. Maybe not as artffully laid out on the plate, but tasted great anyway.
Staff appeared to be on rota with the hotel restaurant, so service equally friendly and excellent.
We're going back...

Our first night at the hotel therme we ate at the chessi restaurant. The first course was penne which was way too salty and my daughter and i could both not eat it. Even my husband who has a higher salt tolerance than me said it was too salty for him! 2nd course was salad which was OK but the main meal was simply terrible - described as a chicken breast strudel it was a mousse like filling that tasted nothing like chicken. A bit like pureed devon. The wine selection was poor. Desserts were very mass produced and bland. Overall a dissapointing experience but the hotel were good about us not going back for the second night. The thermal baths are well worth the vist though, especially first thing in the morning when there are less people around. Very elemental and atmospheric.

The restaurant is spacious, which we appreciated, coming with a pram and our 1 month old daughter. The waiters were friendly and attentive. The food was good and fair priced. Only the wait for each course was a bit too long.

Of course, my dining experience at Chessi was just one delightful element of a completely wonderful stay at the Hotel Therme Vals.
It's fair to say that we arrived at Chessi thoroughly happy and relaxed after the joys of the baths and the hotel in general. Nevertheless, witnesses heard me say out loud that both my meals at Chessi were amongst the best of my life. I don't say such things carelessly. The food was indeed great and the service was brilliant.
