Wonderful food and attention to detail in beautiful surroundings. Evening meal was well worth it and if we had the chance to return it would be for longer.

Stayed for 8 nights, and enjoyed the tranquil location for hiking and relaxing. Service was always very friendly and personalized - and with attention to detail. If you really want to relax and avoid the search for a restaurant each night, also experience the table d'hôte - definitely worthwhile.

The rooms were very clean and the decor thoughtful. Jean-Pierre works hard yet has time to guide you to activities in charming Chartreuse area. Flower filled hikes are right out the back door and the hotel sites on a quiet road above the town. All of the guests wished the had scheduled longer stays. Note to hikers- A good full day hike starts at the Monastery and goes UP (800 m) to the Grand Som with most of the hike in tree shade. Jean-Pierre will give you a map. and you can tell your adventures to the other guest at dinner that night.

Room Tip: double bedded rooms seem larger

We arrived not in the best of circumstances as I had been taken ill. However, I was soon up on my feet and able to enjoy the special ambience found at Le ValOmbre. We immediately extended our stay from two to three days and were rewarded by not only excellent company over three nights but excellent food and great hospitality.
The bedrooms are lovely, wonderful towels and such a relaxing atmosphere. Jean-Pierre and Eric made everyone most welcome...perfect hosts for a perfect holiday so much so my wife didn't want to leave. We will return and this area of France offers much. On reflection it is the little things that made is so special; the home made jams, the fresh baked bread, the bottles of water in your room. It was like home.

Room Tip: There are few...we chose one with balcony.

I normally don’t write reviews but my husband and I spent a such a nice few days here last weekend I felt compelled. First, we very much like our food and was thoroughly impressed by Jean Pierre’s absolutely gorgeous dinner and breakfast. The meals were so well prepared (down to the homemade yogurt in the morning) and we loved our room. Both the food and the home had great attention to detail, we really couldn’t have asked for more.

This was our first experience of a chambre des hotes and we had a wonderful time. Jean-Pierre was charming and kind, cooking wonderful meals and providing a huge and sumptuous, yet healthy, breakfast. The restored barn is a delightful space, filled with light, modern design and traditional touches. We visited in the winter when the trees and garden were bare, and expect it to be stunning in the summer.

A wonderful choice for a calm, relaxing break. We would also recommend the church of St Hugues and walks in the woods at Trois Sommets. We didn't see any particularly inviting restaurants locally, so advise you to opt for Jean-Pierre's cooking rather than eating out. Oh, and don't miss out on his gorgeous homemade mint and melon jam...

When you travel lot... the only thing you are looking for at the end of the journey is to fill at home. Val Ombre is exactly the place to go in that case. Because it offers much more than a place to stay. Unique hospitality, generosity, delicious and inventive cuisine, also a wonderful situation in the very secluded heart of St Pierre en Chartreuse. Besides all, the atmosphere in Valombre is a unique. A most refined and improbable "auberge espagnole" where a lot of varied, interesting and funny guests are mixing with whom you can't but become friend.
ValOmbre is the true sanctuary fully imprinted from the spirit and talents from Jean-Pierre and Eric.
We wish this place and their landlords will never change. So If you get once to ValOmbre...please keep it secret.
