We visited the Witches Cauldron with friends anticipating a great meal but it was disppointing. Overpriced and the menu was dated. Food was okay but I really expected more from a restaurant with such a great reputation.

The garlic prawns - oh my! We had a variety of dishes but the prawns were the best, and we had visited on a friends recommendation to try the prawns as a must. I would definitely return!

Having walked past several times and admired from the outside we decided to have dinner there on a Friday night to get a 'buzzy' atmosphere, it was more like gods waiting room! The decor was dated, miserable and looked like it belonged in a bingo hall, overall the complete opposite to what we were expecting!

The food wasn't amazing but it wasn't bad either and they have some reasonable priced options on the menu which was surprising as we were expecting it to be very costly.

Service again wasn't bad but nothing special, had a couple of different waiters throughout the meal but all were friendly and dealt with just fairly quickly.

We will not be returning although this is only because it's not our kind of restuarant it's far too quiet and lacking in atmosphere for us!

We going to give the cauldron a understated review as we don't think our night out there in September was a true indication of the magic that is on offer here. For starters, as it were, there were rather too many WC (standing for West Coast...not Witch's Cauldron) Eagles fans celebrating a finals triumph. Consequently there was plenty of Hubble and bubble. No excuse though for some lamentable service, larger tables rather dominating proceedings and getting served first regardless of who was there first. Never mind, we were celebrating an anniversary, so not looking to be rushed. Gave us time to take in the ambience, but perhaps the front dining room actually lacks some of that, a bit bright would be my chief observation. Softer lighting would have been more cosy.
Maybe the fairly ordinary ambience places more emphasis on the menu and the food. A good selection of Entres raised expectations of the mains, so entre choice took longer than the main course. You can't not have garlic prawns when you go to WC (this time standing for the restaurant's name!). A worthy choice teamed with the bread & balsamic, which actually arrived a good few minutes after the prawns, so service again lacking slightly. For mains duck and chicken were paired as my wife and I mixed and matched memorably. High marks indeed for the food, quality, presentation and portion sizes. Good value and worth the extra that you may pay here rather than elsewhere.

So very happy with the food and an enjoyable night out...but just didn't feel SPECIAL. Just a tad lack-lustre. Ordinary. Understated.

I had cocktails and really nice food. The atmosphere was good and it was pretty busy. Price is not too bad.
