“French style could be fine-tuned”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

We went to the Bistro on a Thursday and it was quite busy, and very noisy. There seemed to be a quieter section towards the back, but although we had a reservation from the previous day, we were seated near the entrance door. Decor is very French bisto and appealing. It is nice the chefs at work through a glass window. The set menu at a fixed price is good value is you have 3 courses, not sure if that is the same for 2 courses. Although one of the owners is involved with truffles grown at Manjimup there were none on the menu. The wine list is quite short as well. In the pre-publicity we had read that a Krug champagne would be on the wine list but we could not find it .....
Can't complain about the service although we did have more than one person looking after us to take the food and drink orders which is unnecessary. The desserts were fabulous.

“Fantastic value and great food, service needs some fine tuning, felt rushed a little!”
Reviewed August 17, 2012

We loved this little bistro, great ambiance, amazing food and great selection of wine. The food is classic French with a modern twist and the set menu is just great. Chic atmosphere with some very charismatic waitstaff, the men that is! The service is not very consistent in that on arrival we were told the specials by 3 different waitpersons, we're asked by 3 different waitpersons if we wanted drinks, they just need to sort this out because it felt like we were constantly being interrupted. They also need to scour the tables as they serve bread with each course. Definitely give this place a go... The food is sublime !

“Ooooh la la!”
Reviewed August 12, 2012

My daughter took me here recently for an afternoon treat for my birthday,
Great coffee and we shared an exquisite selection of petit fours. They were amazing bursts of flavour. So glad to be able to share the sweetness!

Wonderful treat, desserts looked amazing, and the selection from the blackboard for lunch looked very tempting. We'll be back for coffee and pastries or cake and might even venture in for lunch one day soon.

“C'est bon!”
Reviewed August 11, 2012

OK it's not Paris but it's owned by two of Perth's very best French chefs and dishes up a great three course meal at lunch for $50. Service was all over the shop when they first opened but they've sorted it out. Bit noisy but great... Do not skip dessert!!!

“Did we go to the same restaurant?”
Reviewed August 11, 2012

What a disappointment compared with the reviews. Pleasant surroundings yes, if a bit noisy. We decided to have the full dinner menu at $75 pp - choice from 3 entrees, 3 mains, desserts, tea/coffee, etc. There was a reasonable, if limited, variety. We started with the zucchini stack which had nice flavours, followed by Venison (hot pot) and a tomato hash. If we had been paying the $45 main course price in isolation it would have been very over priced in a bistro. (I wasn't sure my "venison" wasn't a left over beef Bourgogne from the blackboard lunch menu. It could have been any well cooked meat with a nice flavour.) I had the apple pie, which was good, but the chocolate raspberry trifle was disappointing. When the Maître asked how we enjoyed our meal, we were rather surprised to receive a lecture on the attributes he saw in the respective dishes - didn't we recognise them? If it had been advice when ordering, it might have gone down better, but having tasted our selection, it must have been cooked by someone else? It became obvious we were not the only ones who were disappointed, words of "gluggier", half eaten trifle, etc. etc were also overheard from another table, who also received a spirited discourse on the merits of the meals they had just eaten! The surprises from the chef/kitchen between courses were appreciated in preparing our palate. The after main/pre dessert cheese and homemade bread was excellent, but too generous a slice of cheese and such a pity to waste half. There was really too much! The waitresses were very good and attentive, but Maître? He should have had the night elsewhere!
In summary Bistro yes, restaurant no. If you didn't receive the chef's taste tantalizers, then it would have been very overpriced.
We have since heard lunch is better, with the wider blackboard selection and less expensive. That might be the only time we might consider returning, but it won't be soon.
