“Not a boutique hotel”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2013

On our first stay in December 2011 the room had a wet moldy smell. And the dinner was not up to boutique standards! The creme brulee however was very good.

On our second visit in December 2012 the air conditioning unit was broken, they where help full in sorting out a temporary unit however the window had to be open and we spent the rest of the night emptying water from the machine to keep it working.

We did not have dinner on this visit however we had breakfast, the continental breakfast was mediocre and was not covered, The cooked breakfast was cold, there is a franchise in Port Alfred that does a better breakfast and a fraction of the cost.

On numerous occasions service staff where seen behind the bar on their mobile phones. I realize that the hotel is run by hotel students but that does not excuse this type of behavior.

If the hotel is to be a training hotel and I am not against this but I don't believe you should charge the same price as one that has qualified staff.

This is a sparkling clean, new hotel located on the waterfront in a quiet location not far off the main road. We stayed in a large room overlooking the river. Comfy bed, beautiful bathroom and breakfast outside in the morning by the river. Great breakfast and service. Staff very friendly and helpful - great place to stay.

Room Tip: Stay in a room overlooking the river - beautiful!

I've stayed at MyPond several times and every stay has been a pleasure. A hotel run by young, efficient people who know how to look after their guests. Breakfast was always a treat, serving what I think is the best coffee in Port Alfred.

MyPond is a wonderful advert for this quaint seaside town and will make any holiday (regardless of the time of the year) delightful.

The rooms are spacious, full of light and offer everything you need.
What a pleasure. Every time.

The Hotel is run by hotel management students from Stenden Hospitality College; if you know anything about Stenden, then you would know that you are in good hands.

Breakfast is hearty, and supper is a real delight all served at the lilly restaurant; service with a smile, and good quality food delivered quickly and with flair.

We went for the classic family room; the decor is breath taking and spacious, with a fantastic view of the estuary. Has fast internet access (WiFi) which worked well, and an iPod docking station !

Hotel is just round the corner from the main shopping center, and next door is ocean basket if you wanted some nice seafood.

It doesn't much look like a hotel from the outside, more like an upmarket guest house, but don't be fooled once you get inside you realise that it is indeed a hotel. We felt welcome, totally at ease and at home at this hotel; its home away from home.

We stayed at this hotel for one night and had the worst experience ever. Firstly, we were not informed of the specials when we booked or booked in. the frontline staff was only interested in upgrading our stay and we ended up paying for a suit instead of a basic room. We left it at that and thought we would spoil ourselves. We found out when we booked out that there was a special which included dinner so we lost out there too.

We asked for a bath (our bodies were sore from motorbiking) but found that when we washed our hair there was no spray nozzle to rinse our hair. (4*).

The hotel is located next to water. When we realized that there were mozies in the room we called down to reception asking where the mosquito repelents were kept. Reception informed me that they do not offer this (4*) but that they had some stuff for cockroaches if we wanted???.

Ok so we put on the airconditioner - which sounded like a lawnmower and ..... need I say more. We have NO sleep.

Very dissappointed indeed.

Room Tip: Stay away.

My husband and I spent the last night of our Honeymoon in December '11 at this hotel. MyPond went out of their way to make us feel welcome and we enjoyed the large Honeymoon Suite which they upgraded us to upon hearing we'd abandoned the hotel we'd originally booked due to the lack of attention to detail. The Honeymoon Suite is huge, spotless and has a few surprises guests have to discover for themselves. We enjoyed breakfast on the river bank and dinner at a local fish restaurant right next door (although the hotel does have it's own). The staff were lovely and helpful. Would stay here again and would recommend to others.

Room Tip: Spend a little extra and book the Honeymoon Suite...even if you're on your own!

I had been booked in a suite on the riverside of this hotel, which was a very spacious room with everything I wanted, nice and comfy bed, good bathroom with shower, a desk to do some work. The hotel is run bij students from the hospitality college of port alfred, nice to see how these people do their level best to get you a good feeling. OK sometimes it looks a bit clumsy but you can feel that they are trying. At breakfst I asked for a good cappucino, the girl said that she had never made one but that she wanted to try to get met what i wanted, took a while but then she served me a nice cup. With a big smile which showed how happy she was it worked out. Wifi did not work which is a pitty and they have to resolve that as it looks it is a reoccurring issue. I will defintivly stay here again when going back to PA

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the river are very nice
