“You get what you pay for!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2014

Amazing, beautiful, sumptuous, are just some of the superlatives that you can use to describe this hotel. Wonderful experience in a superb room down on the shores of the Dead Sea, with the sea view the icing on the cake. Two Infinity pools, other swimming pools, amazing food (the Italian restaurant was a particularly tasty treat) with a breakfast menu which was so extensive, you could eat something different every day of your stay. The location of this resort, with its own private beach and staff available to cater for all your needs (try walking to a sunbed and a towel and water just appear!), together with all you need at the water's edge to indulge in the whole Dead Sea package (floating and mud packs) top off a wonderful experience. And that about sums this place up, the resort is not just a hotel; the staff and facilities are all focused on making this an 'experience', not just a hotel stay. But of course don't expect all this indulgence to come cheap! We will be using the Kempinski again when we return to explore more of the Dead Sea area. One minor point for the management - there were lots of dead flies on the windowsill at breakfast, sufficient to evoke comment from my wife and we moved tables away from them. The Dead Sea does suffer with flies, but these should be cleared away before guests arrive for breakfast.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, get the sea view down by the beach.

This is one of my favorite hotels in the world. We had a wonderful stay. I was with a group and the resort spread us around this huge location, so we were able to see the huge variety of rooms/suites. All of them were great. The best part of the hotel is that its architecture and art design is reflective of the local history and culture- not just another glamorous resort.

The resort is stunning, set on a slope with views over the Dead Sea, with beautiful views from its various outside bars and terraces. At night, from the higher levels, you can see the lights of Jerusalem in the distance. Accommodation is either in the main hotel block, at the top of the slope, or in small two storey blocks around the gardens. There are multiple pools, mostly unheated. The central infinity pool is heated - and stunning. There are restaurants and bars in the main hotel and in and around the 'Ishtar' building in the middle of the site. The spa building is enormous with yet more pools.

We stayed in one of the garden rooms. Large room with balcony and an excellent bathroom with large bath, walk-in shower, loo, bidet, basin, all very well appointed. The room has a lighting system with various pre-programmed settings; oddly we couldn't find a way of having bathroom light without bedroom light - not helpful in the middle of the night. Large bed with good quality linens and down quilt and pillows. Separate room with wardrobe, safe, and area to store luggage. Wifi worked well in the room and around the nearby lazy river pool.

Access to the Dead Sea was via some steps and a ramp, it was possible to get in and out of the water without standing on the stony sea bed.

Because of the distance and slope, the hotel uses golf buggies to take people / luggage to and from their rooms, so there is a system of buggy runs around the hotel, often not really visible but adding odd bits of noise.

Outstanding things - the resort is beautiful and very well presented. Pools are clean and gardens well tended. Rooms extremely well appointed and comfortable. Although we didn't have treatment in the spa, its facilities are excellent.

Good things - some of the restaurants are good, although I found the food a little underspiced. Reception and concierge service was efficient.

Could do better - service in the resort was not all I would expect of a hotel of this standard. Examples: an uneaten apple on a tray was left outside our room block for several hours until it had been mostly eaten by the birds. Towels in the room were unnecessarily taken away and then not replaced. Whilst lying by the pool, someone sprayed me with pineapple scented cold water even though I had said no - not what I wanted when there are mosquitos around. When in the room, there was a constant stream of people wanting to check this or do that - not exactly peaceful. Main (buffet) restaurant staff didn't explain how the restaurant worked and slathered bbq sauce on some chicken breast without asking whether it was wanted (it wasn't).

Unacceptable - the prices on bottles of wine are ludicrous even in a country where wine seems to be highly priced. 30JD for local wine and 50JD for a poor quality import, you have to be joking. The spa prices were also very high.

So the overall impression was of an excellent site with good facilities let down by service and excess pricing. The hotel was very quiet during our stay but I got the impression it would really struggle with service during peak season.

Room Tip: The garden rooms are private, comfortable and convenient for pools and beach.

service was top notch, very attentive and helpful. the overall ground of the hotel are sprawling and take a while to explore. our room was on the main building basement at pool level, with a porch that sort of led to the pool (separated by a swath of grass). the room itself was cavernous and well appointed but a bit dark at night and could use some more lighting. definitely had a sense of style in the room, but was almost too big as if you went peeking in the corners you found things that others would likely gripe about. bed was comfortable.

the buffets were excellent with a good selection of local and international cuisine. didn't bother visiting the bars for anything other than a glass of local wine. the infinity pool was quite unique with its bowl shaped bottom. their access to the dead sea is private and well-thought out with adjacent showers and a small landing so you can walk out to a distance to float without dealing with the rocky bottom. they are also two convenient areas with mud jars to apply yourself.

would stay again.

Wanted to spend a week end at the Dead Sea and found no better choice than the Kempinski Ishtar. It was great that almost everyone there remembered us. We were not only treated well but pampered too. From free drinks at the pool to fruits and drinks in the room.

Room Tip: Book at the village and next to the lazy river. The spa is very good but a mud free cover at the bea...

From experience , customer service in Jordan is usually disappointing. However, staying at the Kempinski Dear Sea was a delightful change. It's all about customers!! which is quiet refreshing. From the moment you enter the gate to the checking in process ; total professionalism and courtesy.
There is an expression; "You get what you pay for" in this case you get more than you pay for!
I simply loved the new gestures of giving out samples of fresh squeezed juices and fruit skewers throughout the day, lovely touch.
I also noticed the improvements in the beach area , very impressive ! The new kids area is a delight; I just wish they arrived earlier as we had to leave this morning!!!
My kids love the Kids Club , it's so cozy and staff are very friendly.
Last but not least, I have to thank the pool area manager Mr. Mohammed I believe, for his courteous manner and extremely positive and helpful attitude. It's rare to find such attentive managers these days.
All in all , it was a delightful and refreshing weekend! I highly recommend this hotel !

I recently stayed at the Kempinski Ishtar. It is a beautiful resort. The lobby is stunning. The staff at the front desk were very courteous. They were hesitant about changing US Dollars, but overall very helpful. We stayed there for two nights and they upgraded both of our rooms. Nice pool and beach area with mud bath. There is a small area to float in the Dead Sea. The Thai Restaurant, Codes, is very good - nice chef. The local Jordanian Wines are very good. Try the St. George Syrah.

Pros: Luxury Resort - Stunning grouds and Views; Nice Rooms; Friendly Staff; Probablythe best resort on the Dead Sea

Cons: The breakfast is hectic. Lots of selection, but hard to order hot items (Omelettes)
