After a bad experience in Moevenpick Dead Sea next door, we decided short-notice to move to the Kempinski Ishtar Dead Sea.
The hotel is very nice, huge area down to the dead sea with lots of pools and gardens. We stayed in the Superior room, a big modern furnished room with a fantastic big bathroom. The furnishings are good, not the newest but you feel comfy in this room. The bathroom is really big with nice glass furnishings, the bed perfectly comfy. Bed covers and towels are nice, what we think is important for a 5star.
The minibar is for free, a nice surprise. Free internet in the business center and in the hotel lobby. The breakfast was good, you can sit and eat on a terrace with a nice view to the Dead Sea. Selection and quality of food in general is good. The gym had good & modern equipment, a good place for a workout.
The service was most of the time ok, partially a bit slow and in the pool area not taking care too much about the guests. At the weekend maybe a bit crowded but no comparison to the neighbor Moevenpick. Overall a good place to enjoy and relax and have some really nice days.

As Jordan is in general a very expensive country and all the hotels have very high prices, I would rate this hotel as a average 5star. It is very nice, not breath taking. Compared with other international 5star hotels is it good, compared with Jordan 5star hotels, definitely one of the much better which I can rate at least 5star and guarantees a nice and relaxed holiday at the Dead Sea.

Stayed at this Hotel for two nights at the end of a Trip to Jordan. The room I had was very comfortable with double doors into the Bathroom area and with a Balcony which was enclosed with great views across the Dead Sea. There was a wide choice of food in the restaurant for Breakfast and Evening Meal.
The Hotel complex itself is very large and it can feel like a long walk to the beach or restaurant. Access to the Dead Sea is easy, you go down some steps and after a few paces you step onto boards and go into the Sea.
The Hotel is relaxing with a selection of pools in different areas. I would definitely stay at this Hotel again.

Stayed at the Dead Sea Kempinski for a couple of nights at the end of a lovely trip to Jordan. On arrival our check in experience was excellant & we were upgraded to an Ishtar room - which was very much appreciated. The resort is huge - as are all the main buildings (reminiscent of Ancient Egyptian temples) - and you are delivered to your room by golf carts. (These are freely available for you if you want them to take you anywhere in the resort - which is helpful in the dry heat). The room was large but, surprisingly plain, Except the bathroom which was huge - with bath, large walk in shower, toilet, bidet, large sink - & very stylish. A nice balcony looked out over the lazy river pool. What stopped this room being perfect? Things like - no hairdryer (luckily I bought my own) - but then there was the problem that where you plug in the hairdryer is nowhere near the mirror - so you can't see what you are doing! 5* hotels shouldn't have these problems. If you want to eat mid afternoon there is just one place open - OK once but not much of a choice. We liked the Thai restaurant but thought the Italian was a bit overpriced & underwhelming. The spa was huge but we didn't try it - we love having treatments but the prices were too outrageous - even for a treat. All in all a lovely place but not the perfect place it could be

Room Tip: Choose an Ishtar room - away from the large main building & more personal & private in a lov...

The Kempinski Ishtar is about 60 minutes drive from downtown Amman and a similar distance to the airport. It's a great hotel, but has two very distinct "personalities": the main building is definitely aimed at business travellers, and the Ishtar building at holidaymakers. Both are standard 5* hotels with all the amenities you'd expect and surpisingly large rooms. Sea-facing rooms in the main buidling have great views over the Dead Sea (especially from the 3rd floor upwards) and a dedicated (very quiet) pool. The Ishtar building is a 3 minute walk towards the Dead Sea, and houses the main breakfast restaurant as well as a number of rooms. The nicest rooms are the villas, and it's certainly worth the expense if you are here on vacation.

The breakfast buffet is extensive and offers a large selection of Arab and Western dishes, as well as some Asian selections including congee etc. There are several pool areas with different vibes, and also easy access to the Dead Sea itself - complete with urns of mud for self-application.

It's the best hote in the area by some way, and I'd certainly reccomend it.

One thing to point out: there is cabled internet access in the rooms, but free WiFi is only available in public areas. In my room (3504) however there was free WiFi as the signal fromo the bar two floors down was excellent: so do try to login to WiFi if you need it.

Room Tip: Go for the Ishtar wing - or even better the villas - if you're on holiday. It's worth getti...

Started badly when I was called to the security on check and told brusquely that I had a bottle in my luggage that was not allowed (a litre of duty free from heathrow)
I asked to see the manager and a supervisor came and told me it was for my safety!!
After a few minutes polite standoff but no apology my bag and whiskey made it to the room
The setting of the hotel is lovely answer spent a great day by the beach putting on the mud and bathing in the dead sea and pools great infinity pools
The room is good a little worn with a smelly shower but large and comfortable
Free Internrt and wifi and beer and soft drinks in the room
Where the hotel fails is the food very poor a pizza at 14 js plus tax and service far inferior to pizza express the Thai restaurant supposedly cooked by Thais would rapidly shut in London and expensive £100 with 2 beers and a cocktail no wine waitstaff friendly but service slow a hour for a cocktail and long wait for the main course
Also a massive hotel needing a golf cart sometimes and walk ways poorly signposted and staff not able to direct you
On balance great location but top many negatives to recommend

We used the hotel for a business training weekend. The general facilities for the hotel were good.

The rooms: The rooms are very well set-up, we stayed in the main hotel block on 4th Floor with great views from our hotel room and amazing balconys - only thing was the room felt a little bit echoey (like sleeping in a marble museum) could do with some soft furnishing on the floor. 8/10.

Business Centre: The staff were extremely attentive, and the set-up of the actual centre is excellent. 10/10

Conference facilities: The conference facilities we fine, the room set-up was great but a couple of things let the facility down - the AC did not work well we had to open the doors to let air through as the room was particularly stuffy, the lighting is very bright it can either be dark or very light there is no inbetween for presentations. But the staff were very responsive to our requests for changes. Out teams were working in the rooms to the small hours and the in-house were great responding to our requests. We had lunch in the room next door which was very well organised, but they do serve far to much food. 8/10

Concierge: Extremely helpful, going above and beyond to get things organised. I needed last minute flowers with they organised from Amman in under 3 hours. 9.5/10

Food: We only used the Obelisk restaurant, which was fine for breakfast but dinner was average, the food was buffet style so i was never going to be A+, but the grill food was fantastic. I would highly suggest grill food, salad and ice cream and you'll be fine. 7/10

Bar: We used the bar for an outside event, they catered to our needs but the bar service was frequently slow or occasionally our order forgotten. 7/10

We did not get to utilse the rest of the facilities, but overall the hotel is 8/10
