I'd chosen Marriott because of its good reputation. Good location with tight security.

For US$230 a night, it's among the most expensive resort hotel at Dead Sea. It's our last destination for our honeymoon in Jordan so I decided to pamper my wife by choosing a 5 stars hotel.

In general the facilities are good, with few decent restaurants and nice pools. However I was disappointed by the service provided by the hotel staff.

Upon arrival, there were no help to carry out baggage despite there was a bell boy there (perhaps they expect Asian won't give tips?). At check-in, we were told wifi internet is only available at JD 9 (US$13) per day, no public wifi available, which is simply too petty for a 5 stars hotel. Internet is dirt cheap nowadays and it certainly would be a plus point if the hotel 'generously' included it in the rate, not as extra.

Before check-out in the morning, we ran out of shampoo and shower gel (only one each provided, usually good hotel will provide two sets), and called the room service to bring us some, which never turns out at our door. It's a wonderful place, except slight disappointment for the value that we get.

Just returned from a week at the JVM and we were generally impressed with the hotel, the service and the food. The rooms (we had an exec suite) were large and well serviced each day with a good mini bar and coffee capsules etc.

Really couldn't fault the hotel for anything. The only downside, which isn't the hotels fault, is the lack of easy things to do outside the resort. Security at thge resort is excellent with all cars coming in being searched and all individuals being 'airport' scanned. Unfortunately this makes leaving the resort a little more complex and to be honest there is nothing 'local' to do other than visit the Movenpick or Kampinski Hotels next door.

WE managed a few day trips - incuding Petra - so we didn't get too bored but if you like to 'explore' the local area then I would recomend a hire car.

The minute you arrive at the Marriott, you are treated like royalty. We arrived early the day of our reservation. I wasn't expecting a room, but we were checked in immediately. Every member of the staff was friendly and helpful. Wait staff in the restaurants were attentive. Our waiter at breakfast spent time telling us about local foods and suggested we try a Turkish coffee. His recommendation was a perfect way to complete a meal. We dinned at Il Terrazzo for dinner. Food was excellent and the wine selection was very good. Try the Jordanian wines, very good indeed. The room was perfect, with a view of the pool area and the Dead Sea. We also had a private terrace. Internet connectivity was excellent and reasonably priced.

We booked a package that included a 50 minute spa treatment. We were allowed to split the time between us & we both chose 25 minute body scrubs. The treatment was not hurried & you are allowed to remain in the spa area as long as you like to relax. The walk to the Dead Sea is not far & there is a beach overlooking the water.

I had two issues during our stay. The first was our terrace door would not lock. The front desk dispatched maintenance to our room immediately, problem solved. For our trouble, the hotel delivered some Arab sweets. There was no trouble, but their concern was very appreciative. The next issue was a loud hotel guest. It took a couple of calls to the front desk, but the problem was finally solved. The Marriott was top notch even when they were faced with a challenge.

If you venture to the Dead Sea, I suggest you stay at the Marriott. The high standard of service & comfort is well worth it.

Every summer we book a stay in one of the hotels in dead sea area, and the Marriott last summer was the best amongst our previous stays in the neighboring hotels.

Fast check in, all requested amenities in the room were there, all staff seem giving their attention to the guest, except room service, where we asked for a club sandwich without eggs, and it wasn't the case. The waiter who brought the order to the room, made sure to change it within minutes, and he kept the wrong plate in the room and took it later on, so we were sure that a new sandwich was made.

Overall, it was a great experience, and will definitely come back again with the family.

Room Tip: rooms by the pool, are more expensive, but worth the pay for a practical quick reach to the water

A second stay at the JVM which was every bit as faultless as the first.

Staying over New Year, there was a fantasic party in the Ballroom with great enteratinment - something to suit all tastes. There was a ballon drop at midnight and we partied on until the small hours.

The food was excellent, the Steak House (Jo's) was open during my stay this time and for sure this is the best Wagyu Steak I have ever tasted. And the home-made bread! I didn't know bread could actually taste that good! Big hello to the girls in Jo's!

Il Terrazzo could still boast the best pasta outside Italy and Mosiaco buffet was lovely each time I was there. Special mention to Panos (Panagiotis Mertekis), Director of Restaurants; it is refreshing to see such impeccable service and high quality of food as uniform throughout the whole resort.

I scored with the weather as it was unusually warm for the time of year so managed to laze by the pool. Laze being the operative word, didn't have to move for anything, the guys round the pool did it all.

I used the Spa this time which was such a tranquil experience. The moment you enter it exudes calm with the relaxing plush decor, the candles and the soothing music. I had a couple of lovely treatments including hot stone massage which I would definitely recommend.

Thank you to Abdulhalim, assistant Front Office Manager for his help with my IT problems... I was trying to get online for two days, he had my ipad for one minute and that was it sorted lol!

I visited Petra on an overnight stay which was awesome. It is a 2 1/2 - 3 hour drive from the resort and well worth the journey. I climbed to the top which took a couple of hours and is definitely recommended to see the amazing views. It is possible to go up by Donkey but I struggled on my own two feet let alone on the back of something that has four lol! Only drawback was the way the men were treating their animals, but that will go in my Petra review...
