We had booked our stay for 3 nights in this property as we had heard very high for this resort. The resort is located in a very beautiful location with backwater and than by short ride you can be on the beach . I would advise this is not a good beach for swim and due to lots of fishermen and their boats it is not clean as well. The food served was not upto the standard although they had a variety to choose from . The washroom near the swimming pool was very dirty and stinking and it made difficult for us to have shower before and after the swim. The bar near the backwater was closed which was disappointing.
Also travellers who loves to drink whisky , vodka pl carry as the resort only serves beer and wine.

Room Tip: Pl dont select floating cottage if you are travelling with kids and from the exterior it seem the co...

We booked the Poovar Island Resort for one night based on the hotel website and tripadvisor reviews. When we visited the same turned out to be nothing like we expected - both good and bad.
Reception: The experience starts from a small boat jetty where you leave your car and enter into a small boat which takes you to the actual resort. Its a 15-20 min boat ride through the back waters. This is a unique way to get to a hotel. The hotel could have done a lot with this, but..There is only a watchman to greet you, the boat is so small that you wonder how your luggage would fit in, plus you have to wait for ages for the boat to arrive.
Hotel reception: When you reach the hotel jetty, there are people to greet you and all. The hotel reception is good, the first impression is good..cold towels and welcome drink are good.
Rooms: As you enter your rooms, again the first impression is good but when you start noticing the smaller details is when you start realising the lack of maintenance, the room interior is quite dated. The walls are not recently painted and there are hand marks of the previous guests on the walls. The furniture is adequate, the room size is also good, the view is very good as well. (we stayed in a land cottage). The taps in the bathroom had salt water!
Swimming pool: good but basic. lacks maintenance.
Restaurant : food quality is good, but service slow and very expensive. There is no other choice as you are completely cut off from the main land.
Beach : If you want to visit the beach then you need to take a boat and reach there in 2 mins but the frequency of the boats could have been better. The beach is just amazing with roaring waves..
Over all a mixed feeling.
Pros: Great location, nice beach, good reception,
Cons: Dated, lacks maintenance, completely cut off from the main land, you can reach the resort only in a boat.

We went as a group of 18 people couple of days ago. This is an amazing place and we had a warm welcome by the Resort team. Place is so neat and well maintained. Weather was hot but manageable. Swimming pool is excellent and beers was served in the pool. Please ensure you take the NYLON shorts or you will have to end up in buying them. Rooms were neat and clean. You should definitely plan to Poovar with family, friends. Brilliant service by the team especially REX. Please contact him and he will do the needful.

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground Floor are better than the TOP floors.

After a long, hot and tiring journey to India from the UK the peaceful backwater boat ride to the resort at dawn was a wonderful experience and the first view of the floating cottages breathtaking. The reception team and manager were welcoming and generous to offer my mother and I the use of a vacant floating cottage to use whilst our land cottages were being vacated and cleaned as our arrival time was outside the normal check in time..they are beautiful and very well appointed with tranquil views over the water to the beach, which can be reached by a short boat ride and is quiet even though it is a public beach, after freshening up and having a cooling freshly made pineapple juice, we were shown to our rooms. The clean, spacious design incorporates some lovely peices of Keralan furniture and crisp white bedding sprinkled with petals and jasmine, were far better than I was expecting. The bathroom was very clean and had a good sized mirror and large shower mixer over a slightly tired looking bathtub, but in the grand scheme of things, not an issue.
The housekeeping staff really were outstanding in their duties, always polite and adding sweet touches like towel animals and fresh flower arrangements to our rooms. Being typically British and needing tea like others need oxygen, we were sent extra teabags/sugar/creamer on request with no problems, complimentary bottled water daily and all usable crockery always pristine when replaced. The bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever had in a hotel, my mother and I slept like babies every night and the linen was of very good quality. The little things really were taken care of, and I can't fault the Poovar Island resort in any respect with regard to the comfort and cleanliness of the land cottages we stayed in.
The pool area is a delight, with a picturesque sunken bar, hardwood loungers and parasols and fantastic service from the pool attendant, Roy. He brought us fresh towels for swimming and would anticipate us needing the shade of our parasol umbrella with a smile and greeting everyday. A genuinely lovely member of staff, as are all the team at the hotel. The amazing gardens and grounds are kept pristine by a great team of ladies and gentlemen who work hard to keep the tropical paradise green and pleasant and are a joy to spend time in..birds and cute little squirrels make use of the huge palms and keep you entertained with their antics, also, in light of the lack of insects they must keep the spider and bug life down as apart from the odd mosquito, I wasn't troubled by any of the little critters at all. The restaurant 'Tiffins' is the jewel in this crown for me, the food was awesome! We went on an all inclusive package and the variety and choice provided by the executive chef, Mohammed, and his team was exceptional. Please don't worry if you aren't a fan of spicy food, he really caters for all tastes and is more than happy to create less spicy food if requested (and comes out to chat with guests to make sure they are happy and even gave me recipes to try out at home), as I love my spices, I went for the traditional Keralan cuisine at every opportunity. It truly was a feast at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Perfectly executed with the care and attention to detail that I had not expected possible when catering for the large numbers of people who were in attendance. Backed up by a friendly and attentive team front of house, who really made us feel welcome without being intrusive, it was a delight to eat there. Infact, the team at Poovar are the best when it comes to guest service, nothing is too much trouble and every member of staff is focused on making sure that a relaxing time is had by guests, including entertainment such as singers and a thrilling Keralan martial arts display which had me on the edge of my seat. I didn't use the spa, but had a good look around and was very impressed with the ambience and tranquility of it, you can see that a lot of thought has gone into making the Ayurveda village a calming and tranquil spot. I went for rest and relaxation and I got what I wanted and more, a beautiful hotel in a stunning location with wonderfully warm and welcoming people..When can I go back????

We stayed at Premium Deluxe Cottage in this resort. We were transferred to the resort on a motor boat and welcomed with tender cocunut and freshning towels. The appearance of the resort was nice. The reception area was also designed artistically. When we reached the resort, it was around 12:00 noon. However, the room wasnt ready yet. We had to wait for more than half an hour before we checked in to the room. The inroom faciltties and sleep quality, bath room furnishing were good.I wasnt getting the hot water. There was some technical problem which took more than an hour. During night power went off in the room and then it was set right after an hour. What I felt is they dont check the facilities before arrival. Even the room wasnt arranged properly. Also, the package promised on premium deluxe room was not informed to us. I had to ask for them. Food was ok. But the resort was located in a beautiful location. To access the beach, you will be dropped by their boat. The beach seems rough but it is secluded (very few people). But the beach is accessible from land as well.. The resort has facilities of child activities. Overall the experience is good.

Room Tip: Go for premium deluxe room
