“Very peaceful settings”
Reviewed November 14, 2012

I stayed here for 2 nights on as part of a work trip, The staff went out of there way to help and were very friendly. The room we were given was a duplex, which was lovely but a bit of a pain at night when you needed the loo as it had an open wooden staircase. The pool was very clean, and we had plenty of choice of food in the restaurant. We found the bar to be very expensive for drinks, and when we went out in the evening it was a little frightening as it was very dark walking along the paths at night. I would recommend this hotel to couples wanting a quiet break.

We stayed in the Ottoman Residence at the end Sept/beg of Oct for two weeks. The weather was beautiful at this time of year although it could be slightly cool by the river at the restaurants (but more about those later).

This is lovely looking hotel and the staff around the pool/bar/restaurant were very helpful. We stayed in a Duplex room, which was great for space. Two points - the stairs, they are stable but it's less disconcerting if you walk up the centre of them; the fan doesn't actually make much of a difference if you're sleeping upstairs, however, the air conditioning did keep the room cool enough to sleep comfortably.

We only ate in the restaurant in the evening a couple of times and it's relatively quiet then, but ate lunch there most days. Watch out the prices are actually in English pounds...

The nearest restaurant is about 5 mins away if that. The restaurants on the river were great - the seafood and fish were delicious - well worth a visit. Our favourite restaurant in town was the Golden Roof restaurant, which did a great range of food including pides. Also liked Mev's and a lovely music cafe, (Blue Cafe?) where we had a delicious range of meze with either meat or fish (they have no menu)

We did go on two boat tips - one up the river and to a local beach - the other a day's gulet which included Cleopatra's Beach. NB On our trip the entrance fee to Cleopatra's beach wasn't included. The beach itself isn't overwhelming, nice sand, but lots of sun beds in an area bigger than the beach. The island itself was quite interesting to explore with a ruined amphitheatre.

If you're looking for a quiet place to chill out, this is great hotel to do it.

Ottoman Residence is a traditional Han Style Hotel built around a central courtyard with a fountain to keep cool in the Summer all rooms lead off from balcony overlooking courtyard / bar & restaurant area.
We stopped off to see this Hotel and have lunch driving back from Bodrum to our apartment in Calis Beach it was a nice midway location and had been recommended by some friends.
Situated on a river with nice gardens, a reasonable size pool the hotel has a relaxing peaceful atmosphere.
We enjoyed an excellent lunch of local fish - extensive traditional Turkish menu as well as snacks such as bergers for those that must!
Friendly greeting from the staff happy to serve visitors with drinks or a meal lunchtime or evenings even if not resident
We would consider staying here just for a relaxing break This resort is a total contrast to the likes of Bodrum & Marmaris and certainly appears to appeal more to couples.

The hotel is situated on the river Azmak and is about 10 minutes walk from the town and beach at Akyaka. There is a sister holel The Ottman Kanak a further 5 minutes walk along the river. This is a more ornate hotel with 4 poster beds. You will be made most welcome in here and usually a free cup of tea appears. You can visit the rooms.
The pool area in the Residence is excellent and there is a garden area on the river where you can sit and have your drinks etc. We had a duplex room which has a bedroom upstairs and a convertable setee downstairs so you can sleep in either. The buffet breakfast around a fountain inside was very good with a choice of omelets or pancakes cooked by the chef.
The river walk has fresh fish restaurants all along. We went in the Nadir? I think that was the name and had a 1 Kg sea bass for 50 ytl with salad and starts and a nice bottle of wine served next to the river it was heaven. Not a bone was served in the fish.
The resort of Akyaka has a superb beach with very shallow warm sea and there are plenty of small cafes on the main street for lunch. Just watch the prices on the beachfront restaurants as these can be quite high especially for drinks.
The resort is a meca for Turkish peaple from the city of Mugla at weekends and can get quite busy.
I think this resort is one of the best I have visited in Turkey if you want a quiet holiday away from the British Bum Bum bars of Marmaris. We spend 4 montha a year in Icmeler and still visit Akyaka twice a year.

Room Tip: There are standard rooms, duplex rooms for a very small increase and delux rooms. We payed about £60...

Quiet setting on the edge of a holiday village used mainly by Turkish families
Lots to do if you want it both locally and in the village
Nature reserve at the bottom of the hotel garden
Thoroughly recommended

Stayed at Ottoman Residence September 2012. Really enjoyed it, it's a nice low key hotel. We stayed in a standard room (118) which although a bit on the small side was well furnished. The shower was excellent with plenty of hot water. The air con worked well and we had no trouble sleeping. The staff worked very hard to keep guests happy and were always pleasant and polite.
Only ate in the hotel one evening and thought the food was ok - buffet style.
The age demographic is definitely middle age to retired couples which we found ok being a middle aged couple our selves, don't expect wild nights in the bar!
The resort itself was good, plenty of restaurants - special mention to Mevs and the Golden Roof which both served great food at reasonable prices. The beach can get a bit crowded but we walked to Cinnar Beach about 40 minutes away which was less crowded and quite a nice walk.
Also went on a boat trip from the harbour on "Captains 1" a Turkish Gulet which had about 20 people on board. Very enjoyable day sailing around the coast and had sails up on the journey back to Akyaka. Overall good holiday and would consider returning.

Gorgeous hotel in a beautiful settting....staff couldnt have been friendlier, very laid back. When we go on holiday we usually like to be fairly active but it was just so nice to sit by the pool and chill, probably because there is no music pumped outside and there are no children under 12 allowed to stay in the hotel so it was really peaceful. There is stuff to do in Akyaka if you feel the need for a change of scenery, but be aware that the beach although not far is very busy and the sand is a bit like sandy mud! If you are looking for late nights at the hotel bar this might not be the place for you tho.
