I stayed at MVT for a day. It is definitely one of the best places to stay in Vrindavan. The best part is its proximity to ISCKON. The campus is lush green- best place to just sit, meditate and reflect. Rooms are decent enough. Staff is ok as well. Would recommend.

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2013

I stayed at MVT on 4 previous occasions, the last being between the 10th - 17th of April 2013

Providing a review for a place of pilgrimage is no easy task. Pilgrimage in Krishna Consciousness is supposed to bear a element of austerity and reverence - any any inconveniences are supposed to be regarded as tests of one's dedication to spirituality (over and above material comforts). Indeed, this dichotomy is reflected in the mixed reviews one sees regarding this establishment

I am approaching this review in the spirit of giving constructive feedback to the management, such that they would be able to serve the devotees that stay here better.

- All the wonderful comments about the peacefulness, beauty and tranquillity of the gardens are correct, and indeed is one aspect that I too, highly cherish

- The premises are very secure and it is reassuring that this place is run by devotees who are affiliated with ISKCON, and not an establishment meaning to capitalize on the volume of tourists visiting this holy place

- The restaurant charges almost the same prices for items you would pay in a cafe in Europe. E.g. 80 INR for a cup of tea (almost 1 GBP) !! While it caters for a more western palette, it certainly is quite expensive considering how cheap food is in India.

In terms of the rooms

- The quality of the experience vary considerably from room to room. For example, room #10 (I may be off by 1 digit) is next to the utility room used by the staff and expect to hear noises at night as the staff place/remove things from the room

- Certain facilities do not work as well as what one might expect, specific examples given below

- Shower head sprays water in all directions, needs cleaning/unclogging of any debris that might be causing this effect

- Muddy water from taps (I only experienced this on my previous visit during the Karthik period 2012)

- Toilet bowl not screwed securely/properly to the base, and leaning to one slide causes the other side to lift off the surface - in some previous rooms I stayed in the toilet seat was not screwed in securely

- Dirty shower curtain with soap grime at the base showing discolouration (this is common in every room I've stayed in. In one instances I had to ask the staff to replace it, which they did)

On the whole the cleaning staff need to be trained on hygiene and proper vaishnava standards that Srila Prabhupada exacted of his disciples. Some areas to improve are:

- Usage of the same cloth/brush to wipe the toiler seat used to wipe the sink!! (I had to interject and stop the person doing this)

- Cleaning *all* areas of the room - the hinges of the windows in the bathroom/kitchen of each room show signs of cobwebs and lack of cleaning (for months)

- Room wardrobe - the shelf of the uppermost compartment had dust and had not been wiped

- The cleaning staff lack the common knowledge/understanding of cleaning the cloths/equipment that they are using to clean the rooms with. I have seen the room been mopped with a bucket of water than was dirtier than the floor they were supposed to clean. In other cases the same rag/cloth is used to cover a wide area - too large to be done without rinsing it in clean water first.

- The staff need to be specifically instructed by the guests/devotees staying in the rooms to pay specific attention to problematic areas in the course of carrying out their cleaning duties

None of the above comments I've written so far should be regarded as being too picky or expecting 5* hotel amenities in a establishment dedicated for devotional purposes. But on the other hand MVT charges the highest (if not one of the highest) room rates in Vrindavan (almost 2000 INR per night including the luxury tax), and should reflect that in the upkeep of the rooms.

In sharp contrast, the level of pruning and attention devoted to the garden premises contrasts sharply with the level of detail given to the rooms - which perhaps is a reflection of the misdirected efforts at maintaining the place.

Despite all of the above 'shortcomings' MVT is the best place to stay, but it can be so much more than what it presently reflects. It is still the best place to stay if you are visiting Vrindavan

Room Tip: Avoid food items that can be prepared beforehand (like rice). Instead ask for food items that have t...

We recently visited vrindavan and stayed at MVT, I found it very peaceful, clean & secure. Staff is polite & well behave.
Rooms are basic indian with split AC. NO TELEVISION in rooms. Toilets need rennovation.
There is no intercom or telephone facility hence you need to go reception every time you need any thing. No room service they dont even serves tea in room.
Restaurent at 2nd floor in very good with excellent food.Specially italian & maxican food. Quantity of food is less as compare to price.
best feature of MVT is its just behind ISKCON temple, so if you are looking for place near to iskcon than MVT is best option.

Room Tip: Avoid having room near reception as DG is placed near gate. Pack towel, snacks for sure.

We came late at night around 10 p.m and the Praphu at the reception was very nice, welcome us and check in went on smoothly. My mother felt safe in the spiritual environment of MVT . It is very close to the ISKCON temple and you can safely go to Mangala aarti at 4.30 a.m alone. The restaurant upstairs serves good food though it is expensive. There was a beautiful young lady who serves us food she was very sweet . One of the nicest person we met during our trip. The gardens are well maintained and cleaned. In order to improve the quality of service at MVT, I would propose that the room and bedsheets were cleaned at least every two days. Though in other hotels it is done daily. We stayed some 10 days at MVT but the cleaning was done only twice when we asked at the reception.

I would agree with Robert R that for the new comers management could consider some basic info about the riksha chargers, and the places to visit in vrindavan and around and the schedule for the man who washes the clothes.

I found MVT accommodation a very secure and clean place. I came here with my wife and son (3 and a half years) and they liked the facilities in the room(beds + double A/C:ceiling fan and the air conditioning). On top of that the windows and the door had anti-mosquito nets and there was cupboard with hangers for clothes. For myself the safe in the room was very comfortable solution, because at any time I could take some money into my pocket for some shopping and leave the big amount with passports in the safe. We stayed on the 1st floor and on the 2nd there was Dining Hall so it was easy for us to arrange a meal or some tea. I suppose that for the new comers management could consider some basic info about the riksha chargers and the schedule for the man who washes the clothes. Next to the building we could find a nice and clean park, and the whole area is protected by uniform security. Robert Revel.

If you are coming to Vrindavan – especially to be near the ISKCON Krishna Balaram Temple - the MVT is the only place to stay. The design of the beautiful buildings and the immaculate gardens are second to none in this city. Real professional care has gone into making this complex as attractive as possible. Security is a top priority with friendly guards on duty around the clock and positioned throughout the complex and at the secure front gates. As you walk through the gardens you will be warmly greeted by the friendly guards at their respective posts. Staff will clean the rooms and replace bathroom towels on request. The rooms are simple – two single beds with bottom sheets and a top quilt; a comfortable couch; a small dining area with refrigerator; and a bathroom. The hot water is from a geyser and is more than adequate for a good hot shower.
A laundry man comes each day at 4pm – and delivers the laundry the following day.
On the third level is the MVT Restaurant – serving the tastiest of dishes – from both Indian and European cuisines. The enchiladas and vege burgers are excellent. If you have been living on just Indian food for weeks – the multi cuisine of MVT will be a real treat. The Eastern European staff in the restaurant are very friendly and helpful and go out of their way to ensure that patrons are well served.
Vrindavan is notorious for aggressive monkeys – but MVT has worked hard to discourage them – the security guards are armed with simple slingshots which are sufficient to scare off most monkeys. They also have a resident langur monkey – the arch enemy of rhesus monkeys – that happy roams through the complex keeping the monkeys at bay.
The reception staff are very helpful and obliging and do everything they can to make your stay in Vrindavan a happy one. The current General Manager (a young American) is extremely accommodating and helpful. Mains electricity is backed up by a generator that flicks on the moment an outage occurs – so power is guaranteed 24 hours. Most conveniently, the ISKCON temple is less than a minute’s walk from the front gate of MVT. Just adjacent to the front gate is a small general store and a few internet cafes and money exchanges. Cycle rickshaw wallas are also loitering near the front gate waiting to transport you to Loi Bazaar or to the numerous temples in town.
MVT is a most welcome oasis in the midst of an extremely filthy pilgrimage city – if you book into this complex you will be rewarded with comfort, convenience and security.

This is the third time I've stayed in MVT, and having stayed in a couple of other places in Vrindavan, nothing comes close to the cleanliness and the peaceful atmosphere of MVT. The rooms are indeed basic for Western standards but are usually very clean. Nice towels are provided, the bathrooms are functional and rooms are cleaned daily if requested. I always find the reception staff very helpful and friendly. The gardens are beautiful and peaceful, and are just about the only place in vrindavan you won't be hassled by monkeys. The restaurant on the top floor has great Italian, Mexican and indian food - I recommend the paneer wrap and great chips! Also recommended are the salads and vegetable juices - all safe for delicate Western standards. Bear in mind no tea or coffee are served here. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Away from the generator. Near the stairs can be noisy at night.
