Comfortable hotel especially the beds. Very good internet, hot water and breakfast. Hotel is run by a great couple that provide help and assistance with anything in Monteverde. I would only suggest maybe a communal fridge for the guests.

What a gem of a place!! Grace and Renzo are amazing people running a very sweet, clean, comfortable hotel. Unlike other reviews we were happy to be close to the downtown (within walking distance) but also could be removed from the "party-like" atmosphere at night. We thought the location was just perfect and truly enjoyed our walks in and out town. The accomodations were comfy and very clean and well maintained with excellent wi-fi (if thats what your interested in), plus the breakfasts are great. The best part of our stay was Grace and Renzo who are both beyond welcoming and warm on top being a fountain of information about the area and surrounding areas. From booking tours and transportation we could not have asked for better hosts. They take the time to get to know you to help you tailor your trip towards your interests. One of my favorite nights was spent exchanging stories with Renzo, who is so interesting and his passion for the country is palpable. We were so sad to leave but more excited to come back and visit again! Thank you Grace and Renzo for welcoming us like family and making our trip so special!!

Grace and Renzo are the highlight of their hotel. Very knowledgeable, approachable and friendly. So much so that I feel bad for leaving what by comparison with others is a mediocre review. That said I do have to be objective and review the hotel for what it offers across the board and not the just lovely family that runs it.

There is a supermarket where you can obtain supplies albeit at the foot of the steep hill in front of the hotel. The hotel also has free internet in the reception area, which despite other reports seemed to be working fine throughout the time I was there.

The location is at the top of a very, very steep climb out of the town. So while it may be a 10 minute walk into town it's a far more arduous return trip. Ok so taxis are not expensive and you may not be visiting this area if you aren't a walker. That said this certainly isn't a good base if you have any mobility problems. In the evenings you will need to head into town to eat or drink as there is nothing available in the immediate vicinity.

As stated in other reviews this is a windy location at this time of year. The thin walled panelling in the bedroom wasn't sufficient to keep this wind at bay, with the curtains blowing even with the windows closed. As a result the bedroom was both noisy and drafty. With the added noise from a constantly gurgling plumbing system, sleep was fragmented at best. I did ask if another room was available but was told the hotel was full at the time.

While there is a lounge room inside the hotel for reading etc. there is nowhere to sit outside. During my visit the days were warm and sunny and after a long hike it would have been nice to have had an external seating area / garden to relax in.

Of course this is a budget B&B so if staying here you perhaps shouldn't have 5 star expectations. But even allowing for this, the location and the fabric of the hotel prevent me from giving it a higher rating.

Room Tip: Avoid the basement rooms near to the laundry as these are dark and noisy.

Hello fly22

thank you for your review.

Few thing that we don't agree with your review..

you wrote: In the evenings you will need to head into town to eat or drink as there is nothing available in the immediate vicinity.
wrong..
there is a restaurant and a bar less tan 2 minutes walking form the hotel, D-kary restaurant. there is another restaurant and bar at 3 minutes walking from the hotel , Jhonny de pizzería...another at 5 minutes walking calles Don Jose restaurant and few more..

You stayed here with an agency group if we remember well...we gave at you the room downstair (that usually we don't give at the tourist) only beacuse the agency add your room at the last minute and the only room availbale was downstair..and the agency agree to giv at you...sorry for this one but we explain atthe agency how was the room.

the location...we are 8 minuteswalking from down town...yes it can be a steep hill but not imposible..you don't need to use arness to climb...remeber taht we are in Monteverde ..in the mountain.

We know that we don't have space outside to relax or read...we never did any advertisement about garden or more in our hotel...and the agency know about that...wehave 2 common rooms were you can enjoy the surround Reading a book...

at the end we have to says that your review is not so bad if we compaire at all the others reviews you post around the world....

we hope you will have the possibilty to come back (maybe with a direct reservation and not through an agency) and ahve a good tie here with us... remember that the others people of your group they were very impressed about the rooms and they left very good reviews in our hotel book.

This place was very cozy! Renzo was so helpful in terms of activities, restaurants, calling a cab to get us to our activities as planned, and finding extra hangers for us! It is located on quite a steep hill, and although the walk is manageable, it is very difficult to do after a very filling meal! Renzo was also very amazing as my friends and I had planned quite a few early morning excursions that begin before breakfast was served. He would wake up early and cheerfully make us a (different!) breakfast for those mornings!

This place was like home away from home! Wonderful dining area and cute cottage/cabin like experience. Renzo, the owner, is truly wonderful and genuinely kind and sincere. He helped find my mom age-appropriate experiences (she's almost 70) according to the weather. So appreciated his help. Great location, too!

The room was a tad bit chilly (luckily they have spare blankets). Just be sure to bring warm clothes! (I was there in early August).

A great little place very rustic and homely and the owners are so helpful and kind. The bedrooms are generous and comfortable. The breakfast room offers amazing views of monteverde and is great for watching a storm or the stars! Would recommend this place to anyone.

We stayed at this hotel a couple of years back now, but it was a great experience. The owner was really friendly and accommodating. He offered multiple suggestions of things to do in the area, including the climbing tree back in the forest. Highly recommend.
