Swiss-austrian business, run already for many years. Clean and ordered. The owner explain the local fauna by playing at dinner the film they recorded themselves. Good yuca rosti - much cheaper than in Switzerland :) Nice garden, well-functioning wifi.

We were wowed by the beautiful grounds and the very clean, dark wood paneled rooms, even when arriving in a rain storm. My kids loved the dogs, the gardens, the many interesting guests we were with, and the Swiss/European cuisine at the restaurant (ask for the Swiss apple juice . . . worth the bumpy drive up the mountain!). It's hard to separate Sta. Elana/Monteverde from the hotel itself . . . the whole place is magic and the kids all told me this was their favorite place in Costa Rica . . . but they all keep mentioning the Swiss Hotel Miramontes specifically and want to go back!

We stayed at the Swiss Miramontes for three nights. The hotel is located very conveniently between the Santa Elena and Monteverde Reserves.
We stayed in a standard room, which was basic but adequately equipped, but a little dark and dingy. It smelled weird, too, we never figured out where the smell came from. The more expensive chalets in the garden looked much nicer. Our room had access to the wireless internet that is complimentary at the hotel.
The owners were helpful with information about the area. The check-in was extremely brief, with the host more or less putting the keys in our hands and leaving, but he may have been busy with other guests. The hostess was more communicative and generally kind, but somehow made us feel a bit bad for not having dinner in her restaurant. The dinner is fairly pricey, and there are cheaper and equally good choices down in the village, although the Roesti and from what we heard other guests say also the Strudel are specialties that should not be missed. We did have the breakfast, which was good.

I would not recommend this hotel. The owners were not friendly. Half way through our stay we transferred to another hotel in the area and were delighted the the cleanliness and beauty of new hotel for the same price that we had paid at the Swiss Hotel Miramontes. They said that they had wifi but it was only available in the cafeteria. When we tried to use it, it required a password and that could only be gotten later when the owner came in. The breakfast was limited and not very good and was served in a room that was very cluttered and did not have much charm. S.J from Seattle
