Cabure Chocolate Tour

Owner description: We produce our own "bean to bar" chocolate in our Umpa-Lumpa-sized Monteverde chocolate factory. We are now offering a chocolate tour that demonstrates the entire process- how we select beans, and then roast and grind them to produce our "artesanal" chocolate that rivals the finest anywhere. At the end of the tour we demonstrate how our chocolate is tempered to produce the deep rich shiny brown treat that we covet so much.

We highly recommend the Chocolate Tour at Cafe Cabura in Monteverde. The tour is extremely informative, covering all aspects of Cacao growth, processing, and conversion to chocolate. While teaching us all about creating chocolate, our host made delicious chocolate for us to taste. We were able to taste cacao and chocolate at different points in the manufacturing process. If you are a
lover of chocolate, you will not want to miss this tour.

This tour was fantastic, especially if you like chocolate! It was fascinating to learn about the process of making chocolate, from the harvesting of the fruit, processing of the beans, right down to tempering the final product. And there was a good measure of interesting historical information thrown in as well, along with numerous taste tests during all the steps of the process. Our guide and the owner of the place, Bob, is awesome. Super nice, enthusiastic, and a true joy to be around. I would HIGHLY recommend going on this tour, or at the very least sampling some of their chocolate, if you are in Monteverde!

We were just looking for a place to hang out, eat a snack, and drink a beer...then, we realized we stumbled across pure goodness. Bob, the owner, is a biologist, like us...and, he has learned how to make chocolate, set up a chocolate making tour, and loves telling people about it. His wife is an excellent chef. The food here was delightful- if not the best we had in Costa Rica: healthy, tasty, hearty....great!

There is nothing I appreciate more than sheer professionalism and expertise. We took Bob's chocolate tour, and found it fascinating. His passion to chocolate and deep knowledge of the origins, history and different types of processes is inspiring. We tasted the Coco and chocolate at every stage of the preparation. Our kids, ages 9,11 decided to use the tour as a basis to their next science project. Thank you Bob for a wonderful tour!

Sooo I've done a chocolate tour before (at a larger chocolate producer in a larger group) and we did the Monteverde coffee tour as well (which was also very interesting) but this was definitely the best.
Bob was very friendly, knew a ton about chocolate, and walked us through the entire chocolate making process! We learned how the flavor of the chocolate can vary based on several different factors (including how it's processed), and got to taste the cacao (and chocolate) at various stages of the process.
The chocolate he makes is used by his wife for truffles sold at Cabure Cafe, and we picked up a few after the tour. They were delicious!!
