I stayed there two night with 12 and 13 year old students. The new rooms are outstanding
But the older rooms are a little dated. The grounds are also great but there is only one little food store around the corner.

The grounds are lush and beautifully landscaped with walk paths, one of which leads directly to a forest reserve. Lots of places to enjoy the view outside, read a book or look for wildlife. Huge indoor pool/jacuzzi with atrium feeling. Our room was pleasant with a terrific view of the nearby forest and hills. Comfortable bed and reasonably quiet when considering most people are waking early for excursions.
The restaurant food was delicious and the service was first-rate--every waiter was friendly, professional and attentive without being fawning.
The lodge is owned by a larger excursion company, so of course they offer every activity imaginable in the area--be prepared to pay for that convenience and their transportation, or save a few bucks and go without their guides. I have to say, both guides we had, Carlos and Samuel, were excellent and knowledgable with advanced English skills. We learned enough from them to be able to recognize many birds by their song alone on our walk the next day!

The location was within minutes of Monteverde Rain Forest, which we were very grateful for after driving the dirt road from Arenal the day before.
Would highly recommend this lodge.

My family just returned from a visit to Costa Rica and we stayed at the Monteverde Lodge. The facility is terrific, with beautifully maintained grounds, a wonderful restaurant, and extremely nice rooms, The rooms (we stayed in a balcony room) are super clean, well appointed, comfortable, and have splendid views. The complete staff are at all times very courteous, friendly, helpful, and pleasant to deal with from beginning to end. My compliments to the gardeners, guides, housekeeping staff, waiters, and front desk staff for their commitment to tourism and pleasing the guests of their lodge, They all seem to take pride in their jobs and the pleasure of guests. I was especially pleased to have met, Juan (waiter), Jeffery (Bartender), Carlos (guide), and Francine (front desk). We totally enjoyed our visit to the Lodge

THANKS to all.

Room Tip: Rooms with balcony seem to offer even a better view

My family and I stayed at the Monteverde Lodge near the Cloud Forest Reserve in Costa Rica for three nights in March 2013. We loved it. I recommend getting a second floor room with a balconey with a view of the forest. It is a tranquil, beautiful place to sit and relax. There is easy access to the reserve for hikes. The staff can also recommend other tours and hikes. We enjoyed the tour of El Trapiche Family Plantations (coffee, sugar cane and chocolate). Having a daily guide for hikes into the forest was a must for us and our kids. We learned so much about the area, animals, trees and plants. We booked our trip via Costa Rica Expeditions, so the lodging, guides and food were all-inclusive. We enjoyed this approach. CR Expeditions took care of the difficult drive from San Jose to Monteverde and we did not have to worry about booking things or where to eat once we were there. I recommend this approach for families with small kids.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms with balcony worked best for us: quiet, view of the forest and no direct sun. Pool is hot tub only.

We loved staying here at this Costa Rica Expeditions property that was one of the stops on our Quest for Pura Vida tour. Cozy with attractive wood interior. Very nice bar/sitting area with fireplace. Gardens are attractive and interesting to explore; we saw a coati, sloth and monkeys. Excellent food; great staff. Enjoyed having a private balcony with our room to observe the cloud forest. Great location. Wished we could have stayed longer.

Room Tip: Forest level room with balcony is very nice
