In our two week stay in Costa Rica this was the most expensive hotel we stayed at, we wanted to end our excursion with a nice hotel. I was expecting it to be a little pricey and disappointing for the price but i was pleasantly surprised.
We were greeted with welcome drinks and a man ready to help us with our bags. Now, usually I HATE it when hotel staff try to help you with bags etc as you can usually do it yourself and then you just have to tip them and you never know how much to give etc etc. However, I did have my hands full (with my welcome drink) so i accepted his help. When we got to the room i got a couple thousand colones as a tip (few dollars...i'm not tight im just British!) and offered it to him but he looked completely perplexed. He was not expecting it in slightest and was extremely grateful. This is something this hotel does well (in keeping with the rest of Costa Rica) in that they dont really encourage tips ut they do have small tip jars on the bar that you can put something in at the end of your stay if you wish but its not expected.
The Bar was nice, with a lovely log fire. Decently priced (considering location) domestic beer with very helpful bar staff.
Would like to make special mention of bar staff and restaurant staff they were so friendly and helpful and funny. They made us feel very comfortable.
We thought since we had had mainly chicken and rice for most of the holiday we would splash out a bit on a nice hotel dinner. It wasn't ridiculously expensive, about $25 for two courses which is expensive for Costa Rica but not for most other places if were are honest, but my word it was a fantastic meal. I had the steak with Chimmichurri sauce...brilliant.
Monteverde is a lovely area, and this is a lovely hotel to spend a few nights in.

I can't even begin to tell you how wonderful our stay was at the Monteverde Lodge and Gardens. The staff is exceptionally professional, super friendly and helpful, the rooms clean and very comfortable and the location amazing. The El Jardin restaurant was great as well (separate review) We had a balcony forest view room that was just the perfect spot to be. Monkeys, parrots, toucans and other creatures were just outside the room and we even had a visit from Pancho, the Coati mascot. The gardens and forest walkways were beautiful and well kept and the entire facility truly allowed you to relax and get away from everything, enjoying all the wonders the forest of Monteverde has to offer. We would highly recommend the Monteverde Lodge and we will stay there again in the future.

Monteverde is not the easiest place to get to, the lodge made it all worth while.

It's the kind of place where the guests gather around the fire place in the lounge while the bartender, so sorry I forget his name, is your gracious host making you feel quite at home. And making the most fabulous drinks, even if it was a simple ice tea or creating some kind of hot tottie! It has a ski lodge feel of comfort. The food was great.

Carlos our guide, as others have noted, is awesome. I'm sure I would not have had the same experience walking thru the cloud forest without his knowledge and love of the forest.

Monteverde Lodge is a gem when visting the Cloud Forest Reserve.

We had a wonderful stay here. We were very impressed with the excellent service of all the staff. They went out of their way to accommodate our requests and everyone was friendly and having a good time. We even told some jokes with one of the groundskeepers about Armadillos. The rooms were clean and well appointed. Our forest view room had a great view. The breakfast was delicious and the bar staff was very good. We also liked the location as it was only a few minutes walk to town. We took a walk along the nature trail and saw some toucans.
