“Amazing place!”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

We had a group of 10, and stayed in the chalet which is just across the street from the main hotel. The room my family had, the Canopy room, was equivalent to a five-star hotel room. It was huge, had a jacuzzi, and floor-to-ceiling windows viewing the Cloud Forest. One of the other rooms was the Belmar Peninsula room which had an amazing sunset view. The linens were top quality as was the service. Breakfast was divine (the pancakes were quite special) and included everything you could want including made-to-order omeletes. We were there when the hotel was fully booked, but it was quiet and peaceful and we had no problems getting tables in the restaurant for our group. Without question I would stay here again!

Dear Scientist_11,

We are delighted to hear that you had such an amazing experience with us. We always enjoy when groups of friends or families come to stay with. Whether it’s enjoying some cocktails in the lounge and balcony area of Restaurante Celajes, having a fresh juice in the chalet or relaxing in the jacuzzi, all the various areas of Hotel Belmar sustain both large and small parties. Good to hear you were able to take advantage of our complimentary breakfast! We understand how important it to sustain energy for your action packed day in Monteverde, therefore serving a breakfast that has many options and showcases the freshest ingredients in the region is an imperative for us.

Thank you so much for your feedback, and we hope to see you soon!

If you are planning on staying here, you will not be disappointed. My wife and I stayed in early December 2013 and we were blown away by the service. The Sunrise room is beautiful and was definitely the best place that we stayed during our 2 weeks in CR. Breakfast was beyond anything I would have hoped for and was a great way to start our day. The drinks were pretty good but the best part of happy hour was the view from the restaurant balcony, hard to beat that. Dinner was a little on the pricy side but was definitely worth it so if you are in Monteverde, you really should eat there.

Room Tip: Sunrise room is beautiful but when its windy outside it can be noisy in the room. Might try the Sun...

I don't write a lot of reviews, but this one deserves it! This is one of the most unique, beautifully situated hotels I have ever been to. It is not easy to get to, but is worth the trip. The staff was friendly, the hotel is very clean, and the food was very good. Only complaint was spotty Internet.

Exceeded all expectations. Beautiful hotel with fantastic staff. The rooms are spa like from the linens, robes and wood walls to the scent of the room. We were in a BelMar room and the view was breathtaking, you have to see the sunset. Even the shower had a great view. The food was also top notch. We enjoyed the fresh juices at breakfast and dinner was also superb. You can’t go wrong with a stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: room 11 is amazing

We stayed at the Belmar Hotel for 3 nights, in a beautiful, quiet room with a view to the forest. We loved the room, the service, and the very knowledgeable and friendly reception staff. Another thing we loved is the hotel's excellent idea to bring complimentary Costa Rican coffee to our room every morning. :-)
The hotel’s staff was very helpful and friendly whenever we interacted. When I made the reservation, I added a comment that we were celebrating our anniversary. Unprompted by us, we received a bottle of champagne and chocolates to our room. We would happily recommend the hotel for its location, beautiful setting, and service.
Yet the main reason for our review is that the hotel staff exceeded all expectations even AFTER we left the hotel. Since we left in a hurry, we forgot our passports in the safe box. Upon arriving at our next hotel in Costa Rica, we received a phone call from Belmar Hotel informing us that they had found our passports. They knew how to find us because we had asked them for directions to our next destination, a three hour drive. The passports were delivered to us by courier for next day delivery. They exceeded all our expectations.

This place knows hospitality. They pay attention to details and IMO that is what matters. The moment you walk in, you are greeted with a hot towel an welcome drink. We came before check-in (2pm) and roamed the beautiful grounds. They have two lovely hiking trails, 1 short and easy 20-25 minutes and another we didn't get to experience but is apparently longer. They also have their own lake That would be very pleasant to lay near if it is not raining out. The decor and cleanliness of the place is exceptional. Lots of warm wood makes you feel like you are on a luxury old-school ship. We had a room on the top floor in the main building and the views from our generously-sized balcony were phenomenal. You can even see the pacific. Complementary coffee and tea throughout the day was much appreciated on my end. They also have a separate building with yoga classes and a juice bar.

Two things that I wish we're different though minuscule; if they had a pool that would be fantastic. If wifi worked inside the room and not just around the hotel/ on balcony. Again, minuscule for me.

All-in-all, who doesn't love a hotel that provides turn down service with chocolates on your pillow at the end of your touristy day?

We stayed here for 3 nights. We had room 12 over the road which had a corner jacuzzi bath and views of the forest. Very private. The room is modern and made for comfort. We were able to nature watch from our balcony. There is small hiking trail ate the hotel which takes you along a river, we saw birds and lizards.
The breakfasts were of a good quality and variety. We ate at the restaurant twice and the food was delicious and huge portions. The bar is expensive but we bought beer and wine at the store.
The gardens are beautiful and well kept. We didn't use the garden jacuzzi, but it looked inviting.
The hotel is eco conscious, with recycling, using local produce, high quality organic toiletries, which I purchased as a treat.
The balcony in the dining area is great for sunrise and sunsets and wildlife watching, flocks of parrots and other birds flocking by. It's a great spot to relax.
I had a massage and face pack and this was good and not too expensive.
We took the bird watching tour with guise Jorge, he was great, knowledgable and experienced, we saw a lot of wild life and birds. The guided are university educated in all things biology and nature and this shows. We had a great hike with fond memories.
We also did the night tour, we saw lots of mammal, insects and birds incl. sloth . I can highly recommend these tours. We visited the Butterfly garden, and Christine the Canadian interns was very knowledgable about her subject and spoke about insects with passion, handling the most scary things with expertise.
There was a Christmas Parade in town, and this was fun, with all of the locals out to watch.

I recommend this hotel. We will be back.

Room Tip: We had room 12 across the road from the main hotel. Excellent for privacy and nature watching. It ha...
