If you're traveling to Monteverde, there's no better place to stay! We were fortunate to be able to spend three nights at this boutique hotel where you get embraced by the feeling that is Costa Rica at its best. In the forest room (which was gorgeous wood floor to ceiling), we had an outside terrace that literally placed us in the trees. The views from the dining room were breathtaking, with greenery all the way to the Pacific in the distance. The staff are so welcoming and will bend over backwards to help you plan your activities throughout your stay. The only draw back to this place would be its high mountain location makes for a bit of a steep walk to town but as we went to be immersed in nature it was the perfect location for us. There are even nature trails beside the hotel if you're feeling adventurous.

very nice setting, wonderful staff, comfortable rooms, somewhat remote from town but partially very bad access road (rather tipical for the area in general...), good food at reasonable price, recommended.

My sister and I just returned from 10 days in Costa Rica. What a beautiful country! One of
the highlights of our trip was our stay at Hotel Belmar. We were greeted by our name each time we entered the lobby or dining room. We had homemade yogurt, granola, breads, preserves, etc. each morning along with the wonderful Costa Rican coffee. Our room along with the entire hotel has gorgeous wood floors, doors, and furniture. It felt like staying in a wonderful home rather than hotel. We also had the treehouse room; windows from floor to ceilings with huge trees outside the windows. The staff along with the Pedro Belmar made us feel right at home. Would highly recommend this haven to anyone!

We for sure took the road less traveled in a country of less traveled roads to get up to Hotel Belmar. Even the locals weren't sure what we did. But! We arrived to a beautiful hotel with great service and a comfortable, accommodating room. Slept and bathed well and the next day had a terrific lunch from the restaurant outside enjoying the absolutely fantastic views. There is a hot tub but it closes pretty early - around 10p I think so that was a bit of a bummer. It was a little pricey and it was unclear if breakfast was included (it is/was) but otherwise the staff was pleasant, the room was clean and the grounds were pretty.

Hotel belmar is a gem. From making the reservation to checkin to arranging excursions and transportation, everything went smoothly and without incident. The staff of this family run establishment pride themselves in treating each guest with the same care and kindness usually reserved for visiting relatives .. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting monteverde interested in staying at a first class establishment. The food at the restaurant was very good too.

We recently stayed in Monteverde for two nights and chose Hotel Belmar. It had an amazing view and the restaurant has some of the best food we had while in Costa Rica. Overall it's quiet and relaxing, but with no nightlife and no tvs expect to be going to bed early! We chose the canopy room since it was our honeymoon, which had beautiful wood from floor to ceiling and a great jacuzzi tub. We aren't birders, but loved seeing the two blue crested mot mots that visited the tree right outside our window all three days.

Dear Ms. Katie S. ,

We are very glad that you enjoyed our hotel, the food at our restuaurant, and specifically the Canopy Room. It is always a favourite amongst our guests. Being surrounded by old growth cloud forest, the possibilities for wildlife spotting even from your bed or hot tub are very high.

It is true that we do not have any televisions in any of our rooms. We as a hotel try offering relaxing experiences in close contact with nature and with the communities surrounding us. We offer many, many activities to keep our guests entertained while in Monteverde.
Also, aside from our bar and lounge open until 10:30 there are a few very lively nightlife spots in town for those who like to stay up late. We would have been glad to recommend one of them.
Thank you very much for your comments. We hope to have you stay with us again in the future.

Kind Regards

We really appreciate a kind and warm staff, especially after long journeys. We arrived to Monteverde after driving from Cano Blanco near Tortuguerro and so were ready for some quiet rest. The staff was immediately accommodating and helpful, and we had a hot cup of coffee in our hands in less than 60 sec. We took the cloud forest tour with Orlando that was arranged through the hotel and we can't say enough of this tour. My husband and I love being immersed in nature and birding, and Orlando was such an awesome guide.
The views from the rooms are rather extraordinary. Due to damage from the earthquake, the room we originally had was in the 2nd building that they closed for repairs. I was actually glad to have a room in the main hotel due to the ease of being right there for meals, etc, and felt the view potential was even just a bit better. Absolutely LOVED the commitment to the environment by all the waste reduction strategies, etc.
The food was good, appreciate that they served some local options (rice, beans, fruit) besides trying to cater to American and European guests. We had dinner there also and we weren't disappointed. However, if one has a chance to go to Trio in Santa Elena, the food there was pretty impressive.
The only things I would recommend improving: 1) our neighbors in the room next to us weren't loud but weren't quiet, so the walls are a little thin. 2) I believe the owners have a home on the property and have several dogs. I'm a huge dog lover and usually think that's a big plus, but one afternoon a sweet little neighborhood dog followed us up the hill and as soon as the owner's dogs saw it they came barking after us. The little dog following us was in no way being aggressive, barking, or clearly any threat, it was just following us. The owner's dogs wouldn't respond to someone calling out to them and they easily got out of the fence and came right up to us. One of the dogs was really aggressive and nipped my leg. I'm sure some guests might be scared of dogs so would suggest better containment.
