“Cute and very rustic”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2012

We recently stayed at Hotel Belmar for 2 nights while in Monteverde. We got the basic, cheaper rooms, and were pretty satisfied with them. The setting is very rustic, so you should not expect anything fancy. The rooms do not have a TV or air conditioning, but they do have gorgeous balconies with great views of the cloud forest. The beds are pretty comfortable, but you can definitely hear people speaking from the rooms on either side of your room.

The staff was extremely helpful and friendly, and we enjoyed the feeling of being secluded in the woods for a few days.

Compared to other hotels in the area, Hotel Belmar is definitely one of the nicest.

We were also extremely impressed by the restaurant in the hotel. The breakfast buffet was great, and the dinner menu was pretty delicious (unexpectedly).

Highly recommended, but bring your bug spray!

Only complaint was that the pool table room was currently closed, due to the recent earthquake. Also, the hot tub is only open from 4-10PM, and was lukewarm (not hot). Also, there is not fitness center.

We stayed for two nights in this hotel (end of august 2012).
We loved the hotel. The rooms are large, clean and have nice views, the beds are good.
The food is good.
The staff is very friendly and professional, they know your name and room number, they give good advice for tours and also book them for you.
I organised our trip to costa rica myself based on internet search, and I was very happy that I choose this hotel among all the hotels in Monteverde. The relation between the room rate and the provided quality is excellent and I recommend this hotel for your stay in the beautiful cloud forest.

Monteverde is one of the great spots to visit in Costa Rica. If you are in Arenal take the boat across the lake and then to Monteverde. Belmar is a great hotel, family owned and operated. Outstanding view, wonderful restaurant, hiking trails and a really nice, friendly operation

Room Tip: This is a small hotel, advance reservations are a must

We stayed for 3 nights in september 2012 and juste loved it! Friendly and helpful staff, outstanding view (the forest, the nicoya golf, even the pacific coast!!!). Our room was perfect! Even if we arrived late in the evening, the receptionist was so welcoming and even booked us a tour with a biologist early the next morning! Great restaurant and breakfast! Il was so worth it! Highly recommend it!

I stayed at the Belmar hotel before it was remodelled and loved it. Last weekend I stayed there again with my boyfriend and was simply blown away. The new suite is absolutely stunning, rustic (all wood) yet luxurious, with an inside jacuzzi, a view of the forest AND the peninsula and a huge bathroom and terrace, we didnt want to leave the room! Watching the clouds travel througout the mountains while laying in bed and peeking at the incredible views while showering were probably my favorite parts of an amazing stay. Highly recommend it!

Room Tip: All rooms have a view to the mountains and a lot of them have a view to the Peninsula as well. Thats...

Hotel Belmar was the third hotel my husband and I stayed in while on our honeymoon. We stayed for two nights and just loved it. The service was just outstanding. We arrived earlier than check-in time but our room was ready so we checked in early. The lady at the front desk was so welcoming and even booked us on a tour for that afternoon! Also, they bring you fresh coffee to your room within 5 mins of you calling the front desk. Talk about service!!

Our room was perfect. It looked like the building we stayed in had just been renovated, and the room showed it. A nice (huge) open floor plan with beautiful bay windows, sparkling wooden floor and a king size bed - not to mention the really cool frosted window shower (with HOT water) that made you feel like you were showering outisde in the cloud forest itself. The building also had a pool table and lounge area downstairs which was a nice addition.

The restaurant has a 'Tico Hour' - very similar to happy hour where it's 2 for 1 cocktails and they have traditional Tico appetizers (which are delicious btw!). Definitely worth a try. We sat outside on the restaurant balcony most mornings for breakfast and the view is stunning. Food is a tad pricy but very good.

I would HIGHLY recommend staying here if you are visiting Monteverde. It's not in the main part of town but it is so worth it. Quiet, comfy and just a short cab ride away from everywhere.

A true chalet, in the hills, overlooking forest and Gulf of Nikoya in the distance.
Great and freindly staff, helpful for all that you need. Rooms are OK, with nice Balkony. Only the bathrooms with small window onto corridor are a bit weird. All hotel has wooden floors, giving it warm and cosy feeling. They dont have baby cribs, so bring it!. Nice Jacuzzi & garden to stroll around. We went with 2yr old... no problem and very welcome. Decent restaurant. Overall recommendable, though prices probably on upper end in Monteverde. Few bugs here and there are normal up here in the Forest, not a problem for us.

Room Tip: We had a Peninsula room 20, right in conrner, so no "traffic" and near exit to garden.
