“beautiful setting and friendly staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2012

This is very nice lodge in Monteverde. We went to Selvatura while in Monteverde. Although there was a power outage the morning of our stay at Hotel Belmar, it did not affect the breakfast service at all. We enjoyed the happy hour and also drinks at bar after dinner. All of the staff were so friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: rooms on 2nd level overlooking pond and Nicoya Penninsula have very nice views

An absolutely beautiful hotel. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. We stayed in the rooms in the hotel itself and were pleasantly surprised by the new renovations, comfortable beds and breathtaking views.

Room Tip: stay in room 31

We had a lovely two night stay at Hotel Belmar. Our transfer from Arenal meant that we arrived three hours before check in and in torrential rain but the reception staff were incredibly helpful bringing us welcome drinks, helping recommend activities for us to book ourselves on to and apologising profusely for the building work that was going on. When we didn't have any food for lunch they even offered to open up the restaurant (which was closed for lunch that day due to the building work) and cook something for us. As we were travelling in the low season (November) many of the hotels we stayed in had buidling work going on but at Hotel Belmar they were so apologetic offering us a free three course meal with soft drinks and then reducing our room rate when we went to pay too and the building work was restricted to 9am-2pm when we were out and about doing things anyway and so it really didn't affect us.

Our room was large (with two double beds), clean and warm with a balcony looking down over the landscaped gardens running off down the hill and we were able to do a large batch of laundry whilst we were there (we had got absolutely soaking on our previous four days in Arenal and all of our clothes were damp and soggy) so we left feeling refreshed and relaxed.

We didn't have our own transport and so, as the hotel is on the road between the town (Santa Elena) and the reservre without getting taxis around we were limited to eating in the hotel's restaurant.

The food in the restaurant was delicious (although the portions were huge and neither of us were able to finish!) and having internet access from the lobby was very useful. When we went for our walk in the Monteverde Reserve the Hotel has their own guide so we got a personalised tour with just one other couple (we saw the other tour groups with 12-15 people per guide) which made a big difference to how much wildlife we were able to see and it was our guide who managed to find the quetzal first (although news quickly spread and all of the guides set up their telescopes right next to each other on the tiny path). We also went to the cheese factory and did the Sky Trek/Sky Walk/Sky Tram combination which we'd definitely recommend - lots of wildlife on the Sky Walk where we had a guide all to ourselves and pure fun on the Sky Trek ziplining above the canopy!

We stayed one night, leaving Tamarindo and heading for Alajuela. We enjoyed being in this hotel. Very friendly staff, large, bright rooms and good bathroom with great shower. Superb view and a lovely terrace. Good breakfast and dinner at reasonable price. We made reservations for Sky tram and hanging bridges at Skyadventures.

Hotel Belmar was our second stop on our Costa Rica trip. Check in was painless and the girl on reception was lovely. We were shown to our room and had been upgraded to a room in main building as the standard rooms in the separate building were being renovated! Our room was beautiful as was the view – over the Nicoya peninsular.

There was a path around the gardens but we were advised that this was closed - no real inconvenience for us as our visit was jam packed!

Breakfast at the Belmar Hotel was buffet service of cold items and toast (cereal, fruit, cheese, ham) and then a few menu items – pancakes are amazing here although we didn’t realise there were items other than the buffet available until our second day! We didn’t eat any other meals at the hotel – the menu seemed quite pricy for our budget!

The jacuzzi area looked lovely but again we just didnt have the time to use it!

I would definitely return to this hotel and would recommend it in a heartbeat!

Our family of one grandmother, two parents and two grandsons adored this hotel. We stayed 3 nights and found the staff reliably helpful and freindly in giving advice for tours and other places to dine. The two dinners at the hotel were delicious as were the three breakfasts. The views are outstanding, and it was a pleasure to wake up to the sound of birds in the trees. The hot tub was a big hit with the whole family. We felt that we had made the right choice for our stay in Monteverde.

Room Tip: Be sure to request a room on the upper level for the best views.

We only stayed one night in February as a stop between Arenal and Pacific coast. All the rooms have a great view of Gulf of Nicoya in the distance. the food in the restaurant was very good with a great view. It is out of the way, so provides solitude, but is also not convenient for walking to Monteverde. They are currently remodeling the original building across the street, so there was construction noise during the day. The hot tub was very relaxing. You can swim in the pond, but you must share with the ducks, who will let you know they want to be fed.

Room Tip: all the rooms have great views and a balcony.
