The check in process was easy and the receptionists were great, our room was clean and the bed and bedding very comfortable. The pool and jacuzzi were clean and very nice. The restaurant was top notch. The food was extremely good and the staff were sooo nice. The hotel is walking distance to the Cloud Forest Preserve. I can't say enough good about Hotel Fonda Vela, if you get up to Monteverde, I highly recommend you stay there!

This hotel has the BEST beds! Super comfy. Rooms are huge, grounds are lovely and the pool is great, with a bar & beautiful views. They were doing construction on the '2nd' restaurant while we were there, so there was just one restaurant. The food was good, but we were there for Christmas Eve and the buffet was really very expensive that night.
The staff was attentive & the location is great for access to Monteverde.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. The location is ideal - close to the cloud forest and a ten minute drive into the town of Santa Elena. The staff is very courteous and helpful. The restaurant has a balcony for viewing sunset and sunrise. The food at the restaurant is good too.

While I liked the rooms, I felt that they were ‘old’. The bathrooms - the bathtub felt dated. Given the price we paid for the rooms, I was expecting something more.

Overall recommend it.

Stayed here for a couple of nights whilst touring Costa Rica and found this to be the most basic hotel we stayed at in country. The hotel setting itself is ideal with it built on a hillside with wonderful views all round of the Cloud Forest. One of our party asked to swap their room due to dampness but in truth all rooms where damp which we suspect was partly due to the humidity of the area and partly due to the fact that we were probably the first guests in those rooms this season.

Although all the rooms were laid out slightly different they were all generously sized and had a balcony with seats attached although some of these were on shared walkways.

The breakfast was basic compared to those we received elsewhere and was more of a light option. We did eat here the first night after our local night walk and found the food was very good although a touch expensive for what it was. As the nearest restaurant is not within walking distance lack of competition may affect the price here.

This lodge is a stylish mountain building located at the high altitude cloud forest. Despite it's in tropics it gets quite cold here and it's often pretty foggy. Yet you can still see the ocean down below when clouds move away. Location is great as it is nearby the cloud forest reserve park.
