Fonda Vela has a great location near the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. We had a junior suite with a nice sitting area overlooking the grounds. The pool and restaurant were close by. Although there were other rooms attached, the accommodations seemed private. It's a short cab ride to town if you're interested but we had most of our meals at the hotel restaurant. The food offered at the breakfast buffet and at the restaurant in the evening was very good.

There is a beautiful pool with a bar and hot tub. The poolside sunset views were spectacular.

We booked an early morning tour of the cloud forest at the front desk. It's only about a 5 minute cab ride from the hotel. I highly recommend this excursion. Be sure to get a guide to get the most out of the hike.

The staff and service at the hotel and restaurant was great. If you are travelling to Monteverde, Fonda Vela is a nice place to stay.

The hotel is nice and comfortable. the rooms are very clean and actually huge. they are made of wood floor to ceiling so it makes it very special.
the weather in that area is cold so make sure you have warm clothes
I went there with my husband towards the end of our trip to costa rice, so we were a bit satisfied with the amount of nature we have seen and we needed some more activities. Monteverde is not the place for that! it is very very quite and isolated.
The food at the restaurant is good and the service is professional and staff friendly.
I was disappointed that the swimming pool was covered! so even on a rare sunny day you can not get the sun while swimming, the water in the pool was not very clean

This is a great place--each room is different and beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Everything here is done in rich wood: the floors, ceilings, walls. The owner is a painter so the place is filled with original art work, all for sale. The restaurant here is good-- the best we had in all of Costa Rica (where the food in general isn't so great...) The breakfast buffet is excellent and the view is great--you look out on a tropical garden filled with tropical birds. The owner is friendly. This hotel is on the outskirts of town, which means it's very quiet and peaceful. When we go back to Monteverdi, we will return to this hotel.

This is quite a nice hotel although a little out of town. Unfortunately our room was in the top block on the bottom at the back; all a bit bit gloomy and nowhere to sit. That said the room itself was well fitted out although with just wooden ceilings/floors it can be a bit noisy. Other blocks had much better outlooks and areas in the sun to sit and relax. Pol bar area was OK. Breakfast was good and well stocked. We did not eat in the restaurant as we shared a taxi with another couple on both our nights and ate in the town for circa half the price. Fare to town was $6 or $7 each way for all of us.

Lovely, relaxed, good food, charming staff.
The food is good, but beware, many (but not all of) the portions are USA size – so order one for 2 and share it. There is a little touch of amateurism here – but it is charming and friendly and not inefficient.
We had a lovely room with an great view. Go for a walk around the grounds – lots to see.

But it would be nice if they didn’t play piped music all the time

The trip from La Fortuna to this place was an adventure - first by boat across Lake Arenal (with some animal watching from the boat), then by car for ca. 40km all gravel roads. I do not want to know how these roads look like in the rainy season, but we got quiete a massage in the car.

The hotel is quiete some distance from town, but taxis are not expensive. Our room was large, clean and calm, but the furniture was a bit run down and needed certainly some upgrading (this is the reason for the 3-star rating). Airconditioning was not provided, but also not needed when we were there. The view into the garden was nice as well as the restaurant. The service was really good and friendly and we were happy with the restaurant for dinner and breakfeast.
