“A wonderful hideaway”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2013

After the grueling drive up to Monteverde and three hours hiking in the reserve, we were ready for a siesta and a meal. Like others, we were upgraded to a junior suite, which was much appreciated. The room was huge, with two beds and a large sitting area. We looked out over some wonderful grounds, with a fountain, sculptures, etc. After enjoying complimentary drinks at the pool bar and soaking in a hot tub, we had a nice dinner in the "fireplace room" part of the restaurant. Service was gracious and attentive, and the property couldn't have been nicer for the price. You will want to slow down a bit when you're here.

This is a very nice place with friendly staff and a very large room (only room I´ve ever had with a queen and a king bed) and a very good restaurant. It is out of town very close to the Biological Reserve. There is plenty of wildlife right on the hotel grounds (the blue headed Motmot was great). It is very quiet and relaxing here. One great thing is to do the night walk which is conducted right on the grounds of the hotel. We saw plenty of interesting wildlife with a great guide. They also have a nice pool. There are a few things lacking, however. There is no internet in the rooms, only at the front desk and the restaurant. The internet is very fast there however. Also the rooms have no heat or AC but the climate here makes that no problem at all.

Room Tip: There are multiple buildings and there is a walk to the restaurant but all seem fine. Ours was 40 a...

We loved the experience. We were surpried to read it was only 3 star. It is one of the nicest 3 star hotels I have seen. Trails were amazing, sitting areas were abundant. Great relaxing experience. We spent a good part of the day walking around the grounds. A car is an asset as there is not much around here.

Room Tip: We arrived and bartered for a room. Great value for what we got.

Wonderful location for relaxing and visiting surrounding area. We were upgraded to a junior suite for no apparent reason and this was a very pleasant surprise. It was a little disapointing that wi-fi was not available in the room but it was available in the lobby, by the pool and in the restaurants. Had to move suit cases on gravel driveway which was difficult. All of the staff was very friendly and helpful. We were treated to a welcome drink at the pool upon arrival. Overall a very nice place to stay.

Initial impression is lacking as their flag was all torn and the road is gravel with lots of potholes.

Everything else was great including the pool area and hot tub.

The rooms (#39 and #40) were very large with nice views and I definitely would like to stay here again.

The Internet was very fast. WiFi wasn't available in all rooms due to locations however was strong in the lobby and fast as well as they have 2 computers available to use.

The breakfast/lunch restaurant has a really nice open feel and the food was decent. Great service.

Their cozy dinner restaurant is very classy and had a romantic feel. Wood walls and ceiling and a fireplace.
The servers at dinner were top notch, trained well in old style top notch service. The food for dinner was ok however not awesome which surprised us as the place is so great. Probably they ought to not offer such a large selection of foods.

This is the second time that I've stayed at this hotel and I highly recommend it for this area (Monteverde).

We stayed here for four nights. Our room was very large and had all the amenities. The shower had hot water, which is rare for a lot of hotels in Costa Rica (or at least the ones we stayed at!). Pool and hot tub were very nice and great for relaxing after a day of activities in the cloud forest. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Great at booking tours for us! Restaurant was OK. the best items on the menu were definitely the more traditional Costa Rican dishes. We would definitely visit again! It was nice to be a little farther away from town as it was very quiet and relaxing!

Room Tip: Upper rooms are a little less noisy

Stayed here for 2 nights to start my Costa Rica trip over the Christmas holiday. Had a junior suite with a sitting room. Was a BIG room! Shower had a little issue, buy was fixed by the time we were finished with dinner. Food in the restaurant was good with many selections. Johnny the bar tender was a treat and welcomed us wonderfully.
Breakfast was plentiful and we got to see many birds while eating each morning.

Was nice and quiet and was amazing to sleep with the huge screened window each night!
