This was the least favourite of the hotels that we stayed in on our recent tour of Cost Rica. The setting is lovely close to the Cloud Forest national park and with good views across towards Monte Verde.
The Staff were friendly and tried hard to please. The food was OK but not amazing. The trouble was it was cold especially in the cabins at night. Getting to our accommodation was up a steep pathway and the entrance to it reminded me of walking in to a stable block. A concrete building with a corridor with rooms off to one side. Sound travelled and the doors made a lot of noise when opened and closed. The bathroom was cold and cheerless no tissues or extra towels and I personally hate soap in a dispenser on the shower wall....lots of signs about conserving water etc but it was all a bit minimal.

Thanks for your comments. We are very sorry you did not like our hotel.
As we are an environmentally friendly hotel in order to reduce waste we use soap dispensers as well as low flow shower heads to conserve water.
We will have an new pathway to get to the mountain suites in May. These rooms are built in a corridor with rooms in only one side because we wanted all to have a view to cloud forest, it does not look as a stable at all, weird comment…..
Monteverde is located up in the mountains at about 4500 ft above sea level, surrounded by a cloud forest which makes the weather sometimes chilly at night. Our policy is to assist our clients with their needs, so if you needed extra blankets a heater or extra towels you should have asked in reception instead of complaining, we would have been more than glad to assist you.

Fabulous place however not in the town of Monterverde. A little out of town, but nevertheless a great place. Clean, wonderful service, great food. I would have preferred to be in the town where all the action was...

Room Tip: great place, but the location wasn't the best...too far out of town. Had to cab back and forth.

One of our strengths is our location in the middle of the cloud forest. We are only two and a half miles from Santa Elena, so sorry we could not please you with the distance from our hotel to town, but thank you very much for your comments.

High up in the Mountains, last stop before the forest, wonderful view of Monteverde, lies the Trapp Family lodge. Far walk from town, downhill though, but back would be a hike. Taxis are common, so no worries. However, the restaurant here is very good and worth the hang time.

The rooms are spacious and clean. Wifi is everywhere.

Room Tip: Be aware that this is fairly isolated but reall super for down time after a day of activity.

This was our least favorite place in Costa Rica. There is nothing obviously wrong with it, but it is not well designed. The cabins are very large, cold with an illogical entry way. The main building is centered on the bar. The restaurant has the charm of mid level chain restaurant, it feels a little cold and lonely. I also think that the hard working staff isn't getting very good direction. The front desk was not very friendly. Wait staff was busy wiping tables in the restaurant rather than serving food. Location is great relative to the park and useful as such.

Room Tip: Try the main building, maybe warmer.

I think you can find a better and more comforteble place in Monteverde.
However the staff is very friendly and the kitchen is oke.
The rooms are old, and not nice, however big.
Not any possibility to sit outside.
This was our lowest rated Hotel during our tripp through Costa Rica with six friends in three weeks.

Our biggest complaint is it is cold in the hotel. There is no heating. Even with 3 blankets as noted by other travelers when you had to take a shower it was like showering outside. An overhead sunlight, in the bathroom would really help. Also there were no tissues in the room, coffee pot, or mini frig as noted by some travelers. The staff was amazing in the hotel and restaurant. The setting and view in a jr. Mountain suite Made up for most things except freezing to take a shower.. Also paper thin toilet paper and very thin towels. One hand towel and two bath per room that were wet after you washed your hands oncen.

Room Tip: Bring a space heater

The best things I can say about the place was it was pretty, very clean, the beds were comfy and the staff (only a few could speak English) were very friendly and tried to be helpful. That said there was NOTHING to do there except sleep, eat or drink. We took the bus to town our 2nd afternoon and we were done in 2 hours (that's generous). The property has one cement patio table and no place else outdoors to sit or walk or anything. If your not in the main hotel expect a steep/long walk with your luggage and to eat. The rooms had no heat and when they cleaned they left open the windows! The space heater we were lucky to get ran all night and top heat was 68 degrees! Not the warm vacation I was looking for. I didn't see or do anything in Monte Verde I didn't see in the much warmer area of Lake Arenal or the beach. My travel comp. said she's glad we saw it but wouldn't want to go back. I'm sorry it was included in our trip. In order to go in and out of the main hotel you had to pass thru the restaurant/lounge area so as a smoker I felt under-dressed in my sweat's when everyone was dressed up for drinks or dinner. The bathrooms all have windows that open into the hallway so forget any privacy while using the restroom-anyone in the hall can hear everything you do. The whole building echoed and it was hard to sleep. I was with my cousin so not a problem but don't plan on a "romantic" evening unless you want the whole hotel to hear what your up to. No safe or fridge in the rooms either-although they will keep something in their fridge if you want. Food was okay but what we had to pay for was pricey in my opinion. Not bad for the area-except the distance and lack of anything to do. Not the area I want to spend my next vacation though. Too cold for a winter get-away.

Room Tip: If you don't mind the cold walk get a suite away from the main hotel. If in the main hotel look...
