The mountain suites are huge, beautifully designed, have gorgeous floors (a little slick - be careful in socks), lovely furniture, comfortable beds, and beautiful views. Be prepared to walk uphill a bit to get to them. We stayed in room 20 and couldn't be happier! Showers are warm and relaxing. Staff is friendly. The road here is bumpy but it is absolutely worth the drive. Parking is not in a secured lot but seems safe as the lot is right outside the lobby. They advertise a 15 minute walk to the Monteverde Reserve. It's all uphill so if you are from sea level like us plan for a longer trip. Picnic tables throughout the grounds are clean and great for picnics. Not a lot of choices at breakfast, but it was good and included and filled us up until lunchtime. Wifi available throughout the property is very fast for what we've seen in Costa Rica. Highly recommend this place!

We had some expectations from this place - on the pictures it looks awesome. The rooms are nice and the view from the veranda is nice - but something didn't work for us there. Maybe the smell (of color?), maybe the big spider that waited in front of the door in the morning... The location was very convenient (close to the Monteverde cloud forest and all possible activities), and the staff very helpful with booking the tours, but the family didn't like the place, in comparison to other places we stayed at in Costa Rica.

Rooms are very large, comfy beds and excellent bath, the decor is lovely. Rooms have an enclosed balcony that you can sit in that feels like you are outside.

This hotel is close to the entrance of the Monteverde Biological Preserve - less then a kilometer but its pretty far from the town (about 10 mins) but if you want to exprience the beauty of the area, its a perfect place.

Room Tip: Ask for the building above the reception - Room 19-22 -

We spent two nights here in one of their Mountain Suites, overlooking the Monteverde Reserve. The climb to the suites is very steep, but worth it for the view and the large, comfortable room with kingsize bed. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast is very limited, but lots of choice for dinner, and since these were included in our itinerary, cost was not an issue. The hotel is only a 15 minute walk from the Cloud Forest which was the greatest attraction for us. There is no pool, but since our main objective was to see wildlife and enjoy the Reserve, we did not miss this amenity.

We stayed here for two nights. What is has going for it is very pleasant staff; well-prepared and delicious dinners; comfortable beds. and the fact that it is the hotel closest (15 min walk) to the Monteverde Reserve. the down sides are the limited breakfast and the steep-ish walkways to the rooms. If you have any walking issues, best to stay in the main hotel part. Unfortunately the furniture in the room and the lobby is very uncomfortable. I know that's not a big issue since everyone mostly comes to visit the beautiful reserve, but it was quite striking that none of the chairs (except in the dining room) were comfortable!

this hotel was very nice and peaceful but had some downers. We liked this hotel because
1. There is a garden behind rooms 1,2,3,4 for kids.
2. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the cloud forest.
3. It is environmentaly friendly
4. the rooms are huge
the downers were
1.There is no swimming pool
2. Some of the food tastes not like it should like the ceaser salad(which i ordered)
3. the roads are very bumpy
4. There is barely any selection of breakfast

This hotel is about 6km out of town (Santa Elena) and 2km from the Monteverde Reserve.

The hotel facilities were as hoped for, very clean and well presented. Our room (no. 24 in a separate block up a hill) was massive with two huge double beds, a separate bathroom with walk-in shower (not very powerful and very temperamental), and a view (from the curtained off porch) over the small garden and local hillside. Unfortunately, the position of the room, away from the main building, rendered the Wi-Fi connection intermittent at best.

Breakfast was inadequate, with some fresh fruit and a limited cooked option. Other choices or additions were available but at extra cost, which we felt was unreasonable.

We ate lunch here on the day of our arrival. A nice salad for me, but I felt it was over-priced. I mistakenly ordered bottled water, which was also expensive, when tap water (it is safe to drink) would have done.

Had one evening meal at the restaurant, which was again over-priced and nothing special, as was the wine.

Surprisingly little wildlife seen in the hotel grounds, but take a walk (a leisurely 6km stroll, predominantly downhill) into the town and stop about halfway at Stella's Bakery and you will see all manner of birds feasting at the fruit left at feeding stations by the friendly staff. When we left, we were treated to a view of monkeys and racoons in the trees opposite.

The Orchid House, just before you get to the town is also worth a visit, and we had a 30 minute tour with a very knowledgeable young guide, before being left happily to our own devices to take photos.

There is little to do in the town itself, but the walk there is worth it. Walking back would be more arduous and not for the faint-hearted. We are relatively fit and didn't risk it!

Try the Tree House Restaurant & Café in the town, which is apparently one of the "world's top 10 bizarre restaurants". The claim is a little overblown as it only has a tree growing up through it, but it has a nice atmosphere and a good view over the activities on the main street below. Good for people watching, food OK, but not particularly cheap compared to other places.

Room Tip: New rooms at the top of the hill are massive and very quiet.
