NO resemblance to the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe Vermont! We were there for 2 nights. It is cold in Monteverde, especially when it´s windy. It was very cold in our room because they have louvre windows, which don´t close tightly and the cold wind comes through. There was a dead bug on the floor for the 2 days we were there. There was also jam that a previous guest left on the bathroom wall for the entire time we were there. The bedspread was dirty. There were 3 drawers, but only 1 worked. There were no hooks to hang jackets, etc. There was a small closet, but it was IN THE BATHROOM! The staff were less knowledgeable and helpful than at other hotels we stayed at in Costa Rica. This hotel is within walking distance of the Monteverde reserve. It is however the furthest hotel from the village below, which is where all the good restaurants are and further from everything else (on a long bumpy road)

Room Tip: Upstairs so you don´t have people walking loudly overhead

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. It was booked through our tour company. It is very remote- nothing is in walking distance. It cost us $10 one way to go into town for dinner (although there is a restaurant at the hotel and the food is good- we just didn't want to eat there both nights). There were several bugs in our room ( including two spiders and a large bug that looked like a roach). And like other reviews have stated, it is very noisy from all the wind. It does sound like the roof is about to cave in all night. I had to wear ear plugs to sleep. Also, it seemed to me like the comforters were really old and dirty from wear.

We too booked and pre paid on the website thru paypal. We too went to check in and were told that they would not honor the reservation and we would need to pay again. As this was Christmas Eve- we were a bit stuck so paid again. They did give us a 20% discount and free continental breakfasts for our 3 night stay. However, I am STILL trying to get our money back from the fraudulent first reservation. Paypal said they do not back up hotel reservations and sent us to our credit card company. I am in process of dealing with them but am not hopeful that we will ever see that $450 again.
The lodge was very loud and the walls were thin. We heard every conversation, sneeze, argument or comment made by people in the rooms around us. Our room was clean and a nice size though. The guys in the restaurant were very friendly and fun. The free computer access and internet was great.

If you want seclusion, this is your place to stay. Be prepared to have warm clothing on hand as it gets chilly at night. Our room #30, did not have any heat so it was very chilly. Another couple staying 2 rooms away said their room had a space heater so perhaps we could have asked for one??

The rooms are very picturesque - the views are gorgeous. Continue wearing your comfortable walking shoes as it is a hike to the rooms.

The restaurant's food was amazing, We ate dinner there 2 nights in a row and were very pleased. Particularly, the Tortilla soup!

An absolute must-see is the Hummingbird Gallery about 1/2 mile walk beyond the Trapp. It is fabulous to see so many types of hummers at this free gallery. It also has a coffee shot there.

We a
spent part of our honeymoon at Trapp some 11years ago and loved it so we decided to return.

The hotel has expanded in the interim but lost none of its allure. I am writing this review sitting in our room. We have an expansive view of not only the grounds but the surrounding mountains. Its breathtaking. This hotel is actually the closest hotel to the Monteverde entrance.

There are many more activities in the area now. The staff are super---we simply tell them where and when we wish to go and they make the reservations.

The rooms are large, clean and have most amenities. There is even real hot water and lots of it for showers which is very rare in this area. The restaurant overlooks the reserve and is fairly small and intimate but the food is good, served quickli and prices are reasonable especially since prices include tax and tip-- again another rarity for Costa Rica.

We cant wait for a third return.

Ok when planning a trip to Costa Rica I Never expected to stay at a lodge. Our vacation was pre booked but this hotel fit the bill perfectly. It is in the mountains so it is a bit cold. The lodge gives you that rustic family lodge feel. Made of wood with a huge lobby. There are computers, games, and lots of activities. The hotel works with all the companies so you tell them what you want and they set up all the arrangements for you. The room was quite cold at night, i don't know if it was because of a storm but the beds have warm blankets and the rooms have heaters. The room itself is huge, the view is mainly of trees but it was nice. You defiantly will become one with nature. The food was pretty good but quite expensive and it isn't close to any other options unless you have a car. But our days were mainly booked with activities so there were no issues. Its a great hotel, would stay again. Only complaint is that there is no safe in the room although the front desk said they can hold anything for you in their safe, and they seemed very friendly and trustworthy. The hotel is a bit further than the others and the main town, however you are close to the rainforest.

I am staying at the lodge right now and are reading the comments. So I want to write while it is still fresh in my memory. This is a wonderful wooden, rustic place to stay. The room is very spacious! I met many very friendly staff on my trip through costa rica but this is the best ! I had concerns because it is a few kilometers outside if town. But for me the benefits far outweigh this inconvenience. In the contrary, being in this very friendly, quiet place after all the activities of the day is a treat. I did not miss another restaurant because the food was excellent. If I come back to this area, I will stay here at the family trapp lodge.
