“Danilo Brenes is a Superb Guide”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2013

Our family spent a few days in the Montiverde region touring and enjoying some of the adventure opportunities. The kids truly enjoyed zip- lining and we did both night and daytime cloud-forest exploration tours. I was particularly keen to see the wildlife that is native to the area.

To be completely honest, we did not see much wildlife. One male Quetzal, one sloth some snakes and Toucans that were so far away we needed telescopic binoculars. In the evening we saw a stick bug or two, one small viper coiled around a small tree branch and some spiders (no tarantulas).

The flora however is spectacular. There are an incredible variety of trees and flowers and interestingly the continental divide runs through curicancha.

We really enjoyed the hummingbird tree in Curicancha and our day-tour guide, Danilo Brenes was great. He is a fountain of interesting information and we learned a great deal about the flora and fauna that are native to the region. He tried so hard to find things for us to see and I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a guide.

On the recommendation of our guide, Esteban, we chose to visit this reserve. What an excellent choice. The number of visitors is limited so you really get to feel like you are in your own little piece of paradise. There is a great hummingbird area. The staff at the entrance are super friendly! Of course, one needs to visit such a special place with a great guide. Esteban was the best - he shared his knowledge and passion for the cloud forest. Still not sure how we was able to spot all of the things we saw. Of course spotting the male and female quetzal was pretty special.

“One of my Costa Rican highlights”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2013

The manager of my hostel recommended Curi-Cancha saying that it wasn't one of the most publicised but was one of the best reserves in Monteverde. He also recommended that we get a man called Adrian Mendez to be our guide. Well neither Curi-Cancha nor Adrian disappointed. Adrian is an exceptionally friendly and talented guide with so much passion for nature and wildlife - the type of person who will continue working there till his legs no longer work! We saw so many animals including Argutti, black guan, quetzals, tropical king snakes and hummingbirds (I made a list and there are more on it). You definitely need to have a guide to do this tour, it just isn't the same without one. The walk was rather pleasant and our group was great! At $35 (entrance and guide), it is a little pricey but was an extremely memorable day!

“Da best around”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2013 via mobile

I visited with my 14 year old son who titled this review. Christian was our awesome guide. He was very knowledgeable about everything, having learned since he was a child. We saw toucans and toucanettes, spider and whitefaced monkeys, quetzals, hummingbirds, black gurns, and a rare hawk. It was a highlight and "gem" attraction. Really superb.

“One of the Best Places in the World”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2013

We visited other wonderful forests and reserves in the region, but Curi-Cancha was magic. We just like to "walk around in the woods" without hordes of other tourists. This was the place: quetzals, bell birds, hummingbirds, and green lushness beyond comprehension. The park manager was friendly and helpful. We visited twice in three days -- and could have returned again and again.
