“Da best around”
Reviewed August 20, 2013 via mobile

I visited with my 14 year old son who titled this review. Christian was our awesome guide. He was very knowledgeable about everything, having learned since he was a child. We saw toucans and toucanettes, spider and whitefaced monkeys, quetzals, hummingbirds, black gurns, and a rare hawk. It was a highlight and "gem" attraction. Really superb.

“One of the Best Places in the World”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

We visited other wonderful forests and reserves in the region, but Curi-Cancha was magic. We just like to "walk around in the woods" without hordes of other tourists. This was the place: quetzals, bell birds, hummingbirds, and green lushness beyond comprehension. The park manager was friendly and helpful. We visited twice in three days -- and could have returned again and again.

“Quetzals and more!”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

We visited this reserve twice during our 5 day stay and really enjoyed our time there. The animals (monkeys, toucans, quetzals, etc.) were wonderful and the site is beautiful. I highly recommend using a guide to learn about the area and where the animals are in the reserve. Wonderful!

“Timing is everything”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

If you go to Curi-Cancha you absolutely need to have a guide unless you are an excellent birder. I would also recommend doing it first thing in the morning. Our experience was in the afternoon and we had a great deal of trouble finding any quetzals or bellbirds. Our guide, Freddy, is a supporter of the children's Eternal rainforest program. We acquired our reservations through this program and they receive a portion of the fees we pay.

“Glad we came”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

We took a guided tour with Danilo and enjoyed it very much. Because we were traveling with three kids (9-14) we, the parents, didn't get as much out of the tour as we would have without the children however, it was still great. The kids (despite saying they didn't like hiking) actually had a good time too. We did not see a toucan or quetzal which was too bad but we saw many other interesting birds and creatures. This place would be amazing for dedicated bird watchers. My husband thinks he would come back and visit without a guide but I'm not so sure. If you really want to see a lot of birds, there's nothing like a skilled and experienced local guide. Bottom line: we're glad we went and would go again.
