Our tour here was great. We saw a ton of birds as well as agoutis, monkeys and some other small animals. Our guide was really well informed, and did his best to make sure we all got good views of the wildlife through his telescope, and even helped us get good photos. In all, it was a nice alternative to Monteverde. There are tons of hummingbirds, too.

We took a guided tour by Marcos through Pasion Costa Rica. He picked us up from our hotel and dropped us back. We stopped to get an ice cream on the way home, but the creamery had had a power outage. He was very knowledgeable and had great eyes for finding animals and plants of interest. His tripod scope made seeing some of the animals very clear and easy. When we went, we felt like we were the only ones there. If you enjoy animal watching, are up to a long but easy hike, this was great. It was just us and the forest. Really memorable

We took a guided tour of this preserve for bird-watching and wildlife. I think you really have to be into birds to appreciate this tour - fair warning. It was $25 booked through our hostel and we didn't feel it was really worth it.

The jungle was interesting and beautiful - no doubt. It's just that we spent the entire time running after the guide who was trying to spot birds way up in the trees. We saw a number of different species, but they were all from 200 yards away. The hummingbird gallery was pretty neat, but at the same time, we're all standing around plastic hummingbird feeders in the middle of a jungle preserve. It felt a little weird.

The whole thing was all right, and we learned about the jungle canopy and various trees, but you only rarely spot sloths or monkeys on this tour. I think you would have to be into bird-watching or nature photography to get the most out of this tour. If you're just a casual nature-lover, this isn't really recommended.

Spent a lovely morning in Curi-Cancha! Also went with Rafael Vargas and like others would highly recommend him as a guide - extremely knowledgeably, personable, and wonderful with the kids in our group. His email is r.elizondov@hotmail.com and ph #'s are (506) 883881456 and (506) 26456624. He also took our small group on a night walk that was incredible.
Curi-Chana was so breathtakingly beautiful that at times you are not sure where to look - my neck hurt by the end because I was so intrigued by the treetops. We saw a wide variety of birds, mammals, and vegetation.

Two of us went in December 2012. We saw agoutis, side striped palm pit viper, orange kneed tarantula and almost 40 species of birds (including toucanet, motmot, parrot, trogan) - many quite colorful. We never would have found all of this had we now used the excellent guide Rafael Elizondo Vargas (contact info in other reviews). Though sloths and monkeys can be found here, they are frequently not seen (take a tour of Tortuguero for a greater likelihood of those). The reserve has beautiful plants and trees and not crowded. We saw 7 species of hummingbirds at the feeders - truly magical.
