“Wonderful tours”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2014 via mobile

We booked two tours through Forest Alive for our family of six. Andres guided through a half day forest tour and a night hike. The tours were both high quality. He was prompt, professional, and very knowledgable, as well as funny and entertaining. While other families zipped by us without noticing much, Andres slowed down and told us about the plants and animals of the forest. Unlike other tours we experienced, he managed to be completely informative while also keeping the kids engaged and entertained.
After our half day tour he joined us for lunch and conversation which we enjoyed.

Later that night he guided us through a night hike. It was a bit creepy for our 2.5 year old, but she managed fine in a backpack carrier. I would suggest it for toddlers on the ground as there were lots of stairs and army ants. We saw lightening bugs, bats, scorpions, snakes, kinkajous, mice, a sloth, sleeping birds, and many, many spiders. It was a very memorable experience and highly recommend Forest Alive.

“2 Great Monteverde Guide Tours”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2014

Thanks to the woman (Giselle) from the travel agency Camino Travel who picked us up at the airport.. we got the number and website of Forest Alive..
So we send immediately an email to them to ask if they were available.. The same day we got mail back.. and they were fortunately available..
We booked 1 night tour and one half day tour at Monteverde Cloud Forest..
I have to say.. it was great and amazing to see the animals at night... He (Andres) has a great equipment... militair lamps etc.. And his knowledge is endless... He knows everything... I think you won't find a better guide than Andres... The half day tour we saw lots of hummingbirds, he talk about the plants... and we saw... yes we saw the famous Quetzal.. he knew exactly where to find him :)) He brought Costa Rica closer to our heart! Check the pics.. Kenny & Tina

I came to Monteverde with a group of friends to holiday and also learn about the unique wildlife of Costa Rica and from the numerous and excellent reviews that we received for Forest Alive!, we decided to book them for a private tour to Monteverde cloud forest and the Curi Cancha forest. IT WAS SIMPLY THE MOST AMAZING FOREST WALK AND LESSON WE EVER HAD. This comes from a student of ecology at a top university. Andres and Javier have been working with the wildlife in Monteverde for the better part of their and together they have more than 30 years of experience. It was a joy to listen to them talk about nature and the many species that both forests held. Their knowledge ranges from tiniest insects to the large mammals of Costa Rica. Going on a night hike and as well as a full day programme with them we saw upwards of 10 different species of mammals, 30 different species of birds and countless insects. Not only that, Andres and Javier are fluent in English, Spanish and even German and are able to cater their programme to different groups of people. Be it a family trip to explore the wildlife or a lesson with seasoned naturalists they never fail to deliver and amaze everyone with their knowledge of the land and the biodiversity that Costa Rica has to offer. THANK YOU VERY MUCH SENOR ANDRES AND JAVIER FOR POSSIBLY THE BEST LESSON IN ECOLOGY I'VE HAD TILL DATE. Please continue to guide and amaze people with the wildlife in Costa Rica. Hope to see you guys again in the future :)

“Now I am a bird lover!!”

I booked three tours with Forest Alive and Jorge was my guide for two of them. We started with the night tour which was very fun. It rained on us but we had the right gear and that added to some of the night time spooky appeal. We saw a Kinkajou, viper snake, tarantula, leaf cutter ants, a toucan, and more. The next day we went too two of the reserves and did full day hikes and learned so much about the forest and birds. Back home I find myself stopping more to listen to what is around me. The appreciate that our guide, and many of the people we met living in Costa Rica, feels towards the environment is contiguous and necessary. Our last day we went to Selvatura to zip line and hike on the canopy bridges. Andres put our tour together and recommended the Rustic Lodge which we loved. He was very helpful and I can not wait to go back!

“Great experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 6, 2014

We did the night hike and a half day at Sevatura with Andres. It was a wonderful experience! On the night hike we saw three sloths, a kinkajou, a grey fox, a possum, hummingbats, two vipers, a couple different kinds of tarantulas, a sleeping toucan, a sleeping toucanet, sleeping brown jays, and numerous fascinating insects. Andres was a topnotch guide, extremely knowledgeable, entertaining, and energetic. He was perhaps 5 minutes late arriving at our meeting point due to car trouble but went out of his way to compensate by adding almost a full extra hour to the tour. His passion for the forest is unmistakable; it is clear that he loves what he does. Our day hike was also a great experience. We saw many lovely birds, including a three-wattled bell birds, and Andres's explanation of the different levels of the canopy and their associated flora and fauna was very enlightening. Both tours were delightful and more than worth every penny.
