My wife and myself spent two morning tours and a night tour with Andres Alvarado from Forest Alive Tours. We researched and choose Andres from the great reviews on this forum. This was one of the best decisions we have ever made. The time we spent with him felt like we were with family. We started one day at Stella's Bakery. We immediately started seeing birdlife in the parking area across the street. We had breakfast and coffee at Stella's and the birdlife we saw at their patio area was amazing. Blue crowned motmots, blue gray tangers, hoffmans woodpeckers and tropical kingbirds are just a few that we saw. Then on to Curichancha Reserve. Andres is extremely knowledgeable on all aspects of the flora and fauna in the rainforests. The wildlife and birds we encountered was amazing. The next morning we went to Monteverde Cloud Forest. We started our day with coffee on the veranda out back of the restaurant. Andres explained that walking very slowly thru the forest one can truly appreciate and see all the forest has to offer. The reserve was not crowed but several groups passed us by. Andres pointed out what these people failed to see. Many different species of birds, including the elusive quetzal, spider and howler monkey's, agouti's and white-nosed coati's are a few of the animals we encountered. On our night tour Andres was able to find an armadillo, kinkajou's, grey foxes, a scorpion, tarantula and a pit viper. The night tour is one that you don't want to miss. After the night tour we all went to dinner and had pizza and a few beers. We can't say enough about the enjoyable time we spent with Andres. A private guide is the way to go in the rainforest since it is so difficult to spot wildlife. You won't go wrong with Andres.
