We planned to stay here for two nights but ended up staying four. The room was really lovely: very spacious, absolutely clean, nice bathroom and a comfortable bed. In front of the room was a porch with rocking chairs and a fantastic view over the hills along the road into Santa Elena. The rooms are just a minute from the road. So traffic is not coming by your window but you're still conveniently close to the road. The breakfast was in the café next to the road. You'll love the breakfast! There was a selection of cereals, eggs, pancakes, bread spreads and hot drinks. This place is really good value for your money. The hosts were very friendly and helpful but not pushy at all. The owner is a true nature lover and if you're interested, he will point out hummingbirds, toucans as well as squirrels and other nice birds and animals that live on the property. The B&B is about 15 minutes from town but as the parks open the earliest at 7am we found this no problem at all. There are many restaurants in town but also closer by the B&B there is a restaurant so there are no worries about finding something to eat. The road to town is a dirt road on which you'd always have to drive slowly, so it is perfectly fine and safe to drive at any time. The entrance of the buildings with the rooms is a little bit off the street and there is a fence which you can close if this would make you feel more comfortable so you are sure that your car is parked safely. This place is perfect for your stay in Monteverde, especially if you have a car. Be sure to check this place out when driving into Santa Elena from Tilaran. Take a drink and some cake, enjoy the hummingbirds, check out the room: you won't regret it! Of course you can also contact the owners in advance: belcruzmonteverde@hotmail.com. We found this place by coincidence. We first wanted to take a break and enjoy one of the home made cakes (they are delicious!) while watching the busy hummingbird feeders on the balcony of the café. The host told us about his B&B but we decided to have a look in town first to check out some of the cheaper hostels. The host gave us a map of town with some basic directions but after visiting the town we didn't need long to decide to return and stay at Belcruz!

Coming from Arenal Volcano, we arrived in Monteverde ready to discover this amazing and wild part of Costa Rica. We found B&B Belcruz on tripadvisor and with only 3 comments but all good we decided to give it a go. And what a nice surprise. Belcruz is a small Jewel in the middle of the amazing nature of monteverde. On a small road leading to the city centre, Belcruz coffee shop offers visitors a welcoming place to stop and have a coffee, drinks or snacks, internet access and you can also buy hand-made fabric animals made by the landlady or his daughter.
On top of that, Randall & Leticia (the owners) have built another big property behind their coffee shop that they have split up in 4 different rooms that they rent. All rooms of this B&B have a rustic style (wood decoration), with amazing unrestricted views of the Monteverde landscapes and forests. The rooms are very spacious, full amenities (huge bathroom), and are very calm. In fact behind the coffee shop you have to walk about 2/3min among Randall's fields to reach your room, so you are very independant. Randall is a fantastic host, very caring ,always available to recommend you nice places to go, very happy to show you as well his plantations (coffee, banana etc...) and a nature lover who is always keen to share with you his passion for his land and for the birds around his area (a lot of humming birds). He would also look hours with his binoculars to find a sloth to show you. Randall is very flexible, always happy to help and hugely contributed to make our stay a memorable one. Rate for a night (double occupancy) is only 40US$, which for a country like Costa Rica as well as for the service he provided is very very affordable! Indeed, during our stay we often paid around 150US$ for far less service and less friendlyness.Breakfast is included and is HUGE: custom-made as you like, with fresh fruits, cereals, coffee/the/bread and butter, eggs etc...
We highly recommend this B&B and would like to thank Randall for such a warm welcome and we hope we would have the opportunity to come back soon one day.
