“Not good for the English”
Reviewed May 10, 2013

We booked our holiday very last minute and didn't do too much research into it...we wish we had!

We were the only English people on the resort with everyone else being German or Russian.

The wakeup call around the pool in the morning was in German and all of the activities and music were in German or Russian.

This made it really difficult to communicate with anyone. The reception staff spoke very little English, so we were on our own to figure out what to do.

The guy in the hotel shop did speak English and he helped us book a taxi to go and get cash, as the hotel did not have a cash machine.

The food wasn't good. None of it was labelled, so you just needed to give it a go. The 8 hot bain maries were always warm and never hot...no matter what time you went for food.

On the bright side if you walk five minutes from the hotel there is a beach. We did ask how close a beach was when we arrived and the reception staff must not have understood the question, as they told us we needed to get a taxi and it was quite far away.
It isn't far away at all...we found out by google earthing the hotel ourselves, five days into the holiday...so frustrating!!!

There is a harbour at the bottom of the complex which is part of the hotel, but the beach part is the neighbouring hotels beach...we were told to get off by the security.

The rooms were clean though and we were lucky to stay on the very top floor in the new building.
You can probably guess that the tv in the room had no English channels, so take a good book!!

Overall an alienating visit to Turkey with no local culture at this hotel at all!!

Hotel itself wasn't that bad. However our experience with reception staff has spoilt half of our holidays. We arrived in the morning, so we had to wait for the rooms to be ready. We were told to come back at 12pm. When we did we were told once again that the rooms are not ready and we were asked to come back after lunch. When we did reception, so called, manager has told us that he wants to help us, he wants us to have a nice room etc., but we had to do something for him. He said that we would get great rooms on the 6th floor with sea view if we stay in a room of 4 for the first night - with people who we didn't know! We've spent about an hour arguing with him, that this was not acceptable, we've called our holiday rep, nothing helped. Finally, he has basically thrown the keys two 2 rooms on the reception desk, saying that we cannot see the room before we go in, that we cannot change the room if we don't like it and so on. At that point, being horribly tired we decided to take the keys, as we did not plan on staying long in the room anyway and we'd report it the next day to our holiday rep at the meeting. Room that were given was on the ground floor, overlooking plastic bottles and laundry room, with mould on bathroom ceiling. Receptionists and the 'manager' were rude, barely spoke English, or maybe pretended not to speak to avoid further conversation. We managed to change the room after 3 days and the second one was much better, nice and clean with sea view, still in the old part though. You need to know that there are two buildings - one of them is old and it's a lottery what room you'll get and the second building which was renovated and it much better. At the meeting with our holiday rep we've come to find out that we were not the only ones having this problem, 90% of the group was treated in the same way, however some of them agreed to sleep in a room of 4/6 for the first night, not knowing each other at all, and with some of the beds being mattresses out on the floor.

Switching to better things now: food was ok, however choice was poor especially at the breakfast. Restaurant and bar staff was polite and friendly. The A La Carte restaurant, that you could have once a week as a part of the package, wasn't really a a la carte, you could choose chicken or fish and everything else was the same. Not worth it. You could eat better in the main room. NOTE: the alcohol they had in bars was fake. Whisky they had was already mixed with coke in the bottle and yet they were serving it as normal whisky. The only alcohol that wasn't forged was Raki. However if you tipped the bartender, you could get the 'real' stuff.

Swimming pool was rather small, but good enough. To get to the beach you had to walk about 200m, but beach was ok, with a small bar where you had beer, juices and some snacks throughout the day. There was another 'beach' when you walked down the stairs from the main hotel - it was a wooden deck, however you could get straight in to the deep see and swim, which was nice. Overall location of the hotel was beautiful, on the cliff.

As you can see, hotel had it's ups and downs. Overall it was a OK holiday, however could have been much better. I wouldn't go to the same hotel again.

Just a small tip if you plan on doing some trips: don't buy from the holiday rep. When you go outside the hotel, towards the beach there is a small shop, where you can buy the same trip and pay 1/3 of the price. And you can bargain over the price, especially when you will go on more than 1 trip. If you have time, I suggest you go to Cappadocia for a 2 day trip. It's amazing.

Everything was okay with this hotel except of the cleaning women, who came every day but did nothing in the rooms. She changed just the towel. When we arrived the room was dirty with red wine spots in the floor and black mold in the shower place. And this didn't changed in whole week. I also was in the reception and ask cleaning, they apologized, were nice but again nothing happened. Once we had to steal the cleaning stuff from the cleaning lady and do it ourselves.
Against of this dirty floor thing the food, the waiters, the animation team, the place, the beach was perfect and unforgottable.

It didn't start well when we were put into a horrible dirty ground floor room at the back of the hotel. We had booked through Alpharooms and had paid extra for a better room(complaint made to Alpharooms) We complained and were told we could get a better room at 12 the next day which we duly did. The 2nd room was much better with nice views and better furnished.

The hotel seems to cater mainly for Russians and Germans, at time of visit I was the only English person there, as my wife is Russian communication was no problem for me. The staff try very hard and lots do speak English.

Good Points of Hotel: The beach 2 is lovely, sandy and the sea wonderful, clean and warm.
The staff work very hard in keeping the public areas clean and tidy and it was good to see the manager walking around inspecting the public areas, not always the case in lots of hotels. We had a huge storm while we were there and the next morning the grounds really had suffered with tree in garden blown down terrace under water and bits of tree and swimming pool very dirty and full of sunbeds and leaves branches etc.
By 9am the pool was clean(more than hotel next door whos pool was still very dirty 3 days later) and by 12 o'clock you would not have known there had been a storm. The staff had worked very hard and deserve lots of credit.
You never had to reserve a sunbed because hotel has 2 beaches and 2 pools there was always plenty of sunbeds to be had.

Security at the hotel was good only one way in and always someone on the gate.

Plenty of wine beer and spirits, I didn't try the spirits but the Russians seemed to enjoy the local vodka.

Bad Points:
The standard of cleaning of bedrooms could be better, although they got done everyday it always seemed to be a lick and promise.
The food was average, I am a chef by trade and love to try local foods wherever I go. I like to eat food from the country I am in and much prefer that to English food everywhere. There was plenty of choice but it was very repetitive and why is it that most of the hot food was hardly warm. The selection of fruit was poor, Turkey grows some wonderful fruit, we had melon, water melon ,orange, grapefruit and the odd apple. The area around Alanya is known as the banana road, they even had bananas growing in the garden but not once did we get any in the restaurant.

The entertainment in the evenings was poor based mainly on embarrassing the customers, maybe its because I'm English but the sight of a fellow guest pretending to do a striptease was frankly cringe making.

We like to eat outside but the number of people smoking in the covered terrace was frankly horrible, it is very difficult to enjoy your food when 6 Germans are chain smoking on the table next to you at breakfast.

I was surprise by the number of children in the hotel but I suppose that is a risk whatever time of year you go.

We did have a very nice holiday and I would recommend this hotel, it has lots of really nice points but with a little effort it could be so much better.
