“Beautiful home and gracious hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

We spent two nights here with our three teenagers at the end of a two-week trip. Hosts Cathy and Richard were very nice and helpful with suggestions for dinner and sightseeing. Even went out and bought a fan to cool our room during an unusual hot spell. The home is gorgeous and our adjoining rooms were quite comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, including homemade jam and bread. It's not walking distance to Brussels landmarks but the bus stop is just across the beautiful, expansive Josaphat Park, which is right down the street and great for a morning run. Our youngest also enjoyed their cat and tortoises!

My husband and I stayed here while in Brussels and enjoyed it very much. It's a nice location- near bus stops and trams that can get you anywhere. The homeowners were very helpful about instructing us on how to use it and what to see in Brussels. The place was clean, breakfast was great, and we were very comfortable here.

We've had a great time at Josaphat Park. Our staying in Brussels has been nicer thanks to Cathy and Richard. The house is really cozy. The breaksfast is amazing, mainly because they make the jam and the bread. They even provided us with a transport card to get around the city and useful information. Their recommendations about food, places to visit,etc... were absolutely accurate.
If we visit Brussels again, we'll stay there without a doubt.

Girls will love it so much because the interior decoration is so dreamy! They even have a hundred years old piano in this stunning building. Richard and Cathy were so nice and considerate. They made the bread and jam for the delicious breakfast. We had it with a family from India. They even drove the family to the airport when they left Brussels. It is really a pity that we only stayed for one short night. Love it so much! The photos taken here are awesome!

Recently stayed for a wonderful weekend. The host and hostess were charming and knowledgeable and guided us through the delights of this splendid city. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was very filling with freshly squeezed orange juice and home-made bread and jams.
Will certainly go back.

Richard and Cathy welcomed us earlier than the typical arrival time, as our flight deposited us in Brussels mid-morning. We would have been happy with merely dropping off our luggage and then heading into central Brussels, but our timing was good and the rooms were available. Like many others who have stayed here, we needed the two-room family accommodations. This is a very comfortable and welcoming place to stay.

We stayed at Josaphat Park B&B from June 20-22, just as the rewiring of the house was getting started. Richard apologized for the situation and explained why it was happening. Unlike Willtravell2, who said that Richard complained, he did nothing of the sort. It was merely an explanation. (Folks from North America should be forewarned...A/C units are not nearly as common in Europe. So be prepared to use fans.) Even with the workers on the premises, we felt safe.

We appreciated the basket of maps, brochures and other informational literature made available in our rooms. We made use of these, as well as their suggestion for dinner for the first night we stayed with them. La Selva restaurant served up a very nice meal. I wasn't expecting to practice speaking Portuguese while I was in Belgium, but one of the waiters is from Portugal, so we chatted a bit.

Breakfast was simple, but tasty. It's impossible to complain about starting the day with fresh, homemade bread (which Richard was making when we arrived), fresh jams, freshly squeezed orange juice, a type of cheese that I'd never tried before and nice conversation with our hosts. We also enjoyed the view out of our window onto their back garden. The final day, we got to feed the tortoises.

It is worth noting the short walk to the bus and tram stops in one direction, and the short walk to Josaphat Park in the other. We didn't really get to experience the park in our three days there, but did get a quick look at it. An important service to highlight is the fact that they have bus passes available for their guests. We were happy to pay the discounted bulk-ride price and save ourselves the time and trouble of getting in line to buy these at Gare Centraal.

I made the mistake of leaving my camera behind at Josaphat Park, when we departed for France. Cathy was kind enough to send me an email letting me know that the camera was there. We have since arranged for its return to my house in the US. This is another example of their genuinely helpful personalities and their desire to keep their customers happy.

We recently stayed at this B&B for one night while visiting Brussels. It was unseasonably hot and when we arrived, our host spent most of his time complaining to us about the problems he was having with the workmen who were rewiring the house. The house was also being painted inside and there were paint cans laying around outside our rooms. We had a small room at the top of the house which was only bearable later in the evening because of a fan. Our hosts entertained in the garden, but never thought to extend the invitation to us to cool off outside. Off-street parking was only available near the park, but we had to go quite a distance away to find a spot. Our hostess was was helpful in terms of providing information on public transport to downtown Brussels. The breakfast was not memorable.

We have never had such a negative review before, but we were worried by this couple from the outset. First of all, we are not responsible for the "unseasonably hot" weather. They probably would have complained if it was cold and wet too. We thoughtfully put a fan in their room. They arrived rather unhappy because they had chosen to tour Europe by car with neither a map nor a satellite navigation system, claiming that they navigated by instinct. They immediately complained that the signposting in Belgium was very poor - again, hardly our fault but it put them in a bad mood. When they left the next morning I had to try to explain how to get on the road to Utrecht in the Netherlands while our guest wrote a few notes on a piece of paper: he didn't even want to look at a map. We were not so much complaining about the electrician and decorator as explaining why there was work going on in the house. The guests were in no way inconvenienced and again, if we had unsafe wiring or scruffy decoration they would no doubt have complained about this too. Are paint-cans "laying" (he means lying) OUTSIDE the room in a corner of the landing really a problem? We suggested that the guest should move his car, which he had parked in contravention of the regulations, thereby risking a fine, and he decided to park further away than necessary and then could not find his way back, having already forgotten our address, although it was a straight walk back to the house. One-night stays never give a good opportunity to enjoy the house and its surroundings and we shall be discouraged from taking overnighters if we get more reviews like this. I would invite Trip Advisor readers to look at our other reviews and draw their own conclusions. And guests are always welcome to sit in our small garden if they wish.
