“Modern, trendy and hip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2013

From the modern architecture, over typical Aloft hip interiors, to brilliantly organised rooms, this is a hotel for the 21st century traveller. However, despite its relaxed character, service standards are very serious. Check-in and check-out were efficient, staff are friendly and knowledge of English impeccable. The amenities are excellent both inside and outside the room, although I don't really understand why they keep the minibar empty on purpose - it's certainly not convenient going out of your room just to grab a snack or a drink. The location is better than one would expect, with tram, bus and metro connections available aplenty, but the surrounding area is very peaceful and quiet at night, something you'd never get staying at the Grand' Place. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable stay and a definite entry to my favourite list as long as the price is reasonable.

Hi there gojko88,

Thanks for your review and what a pleasure receiving such good grades from a senior contributor. It seems that you are a perfect fit for the Aloft brand! As for the minibars; these are kept empty to allow stocking it for each unique craving!

Hope to see you back soon!

Aloft is located in the "European Quarter" of the EU which I happen to visit much often than I would like. Close to two subway stations and within a walking distance from a stop of the Brussels airport shuttle bus, it offers a convenient location both for business and tourism.
It was my first stay at an Aloft hotel and really enjoyed the concept. Open space lobby, with check in desk (self-service check in and check out is also possible), two iMacs for guest use, a bar sitting area, pool table and a corner with snacks an food to fuel up during the day or at breakfast. Music is always present, low in the morning, but a bit too loud for my taste in the afternoon and evening.
The staff is very welcoming and ready to help.
I had asked for a room in an upper floor away from elevator halls and plenty of daylight, I got a room in the 8th (top) floor, almost at the end of the corridor and with a generous view. Unfortunately, attention to customer generally is not what it used to be, but the staff at Aloft Brussels do seem to be a very much welcome exception!
The room design is quite clever, and offer a walk-in shower, massive LCD TV with all possible analogic and digital inputs for your gadgets, smartly concealed ironing board, a safe for your valuables (including an electric socket inside the safe to allow you charging your laptop) and, what is more, an extremely comfortable bed. The only downside is that you cannot open the windows (locked).
Complimentary bottles of water and coffee/tea are provided.
At breakfast, you have 3 options to choose form: 3 pieces (6 Euros), 5 pieces (10 Euros, this is what you get when the breakfast is included in the rate) or all you can eat (25 Euros). Good choice of products including fresh fruit, but the variety of bread was a bit disappointing.
Overall, a great relaxed hotel for a business trip or to explore the city.

Have stayed at Aloft a few times and only had positive experience with accommodation and service so far. In my opinion, definitely designed with a business traveler in mind, so not exactly one's choice for a romantic trip. But you probably wouldn't be looking for much romance at this location either:)

I travel to Brussels frequently, and Aloft is my first choice. The location is great, the decor is nice, bright and modern, the staff are friendly and competent, and everything just works right. The free wifi is essential and works everywhere in the hotel, and the setup with a snack shop next to the reception means that you can get something to drink or to munch on 24 hours a day.

I stayed in the Aloft for business recently. I was told at check-in the usual swipe of card would be taken as security but not actually charged, and payment would be on check-out as usual.
However, the hotel's practice is to actually charge the pre-authorisation (of the €149 rate plus €25 security=€174) and to ALSO charge ANOTHER payment (of the €149 rate) on check-out, and then a week or so later the pre-authorisation is supposed to be refunded to your bank account!
So, instead of just paying the €149 rate, they took €323 from my account in total! And when I phoned (had to phone several times to get help with this), they told me the €174 pre-authorisation would return to my account in a week or so!
If I had known this in advance I certainly would have chosen another hotel, because I can't afford to be without €179 for a week (out of my own money - I can't claim this part back from my company).
This seems to me to be a crazy practice and I am very annoyed. I just wanted to warn others.
Also, this hotel is part of a group of hotels; the SPG group, so please be warned, this may happen in those hotels also.

Hi Business T,

First of all I am sorry to hear that you have been inconvenienced to such a great extend as a result of staying with us at the Aloft. Naturally it is not in any way our aim to deliberately discomfort you and especially not through such sensitive ways as payments.

Let me explain to you what happened.
Upon check-in, we ask you for a credit card authorization or cash deposit that covers the room rate and any incidentals that are not covered in your reservation. This is normal; practically every hotel in the world does this. Upon check-out, you will be refunded the difference of your cash deposit if there is one, or the unused authorized amount on your credit card will be released instantly.

In your case, you chose to use a debit card, not a credit card. Debit cards do not allow amounts to be reserved on them, like is the case with credit cards - they only allow amounts to be deducted. When you checked out with us, the hotel directly instructed a release of the difference of the unused amount to your bank. Unfortunately these take much longer then is the case with credit cards and can take up to 2 weeks to be returned to you. Hence our request to guests to always use credit cards instead of debit cards.

Our accounting department and front office team, whom have been in contact with you already shortly after your stay, have verified this release and guarantee that your bank will release the amount as soon as their policies allow.

Ms Business T, my apologies for the somewhat technical explanation. We do strongly empathize with your situation and know how inconvenienced you are. As indicated, the hotel has no direct influence over this however we do wish a quick resolution of this as much as you do.

My very best regards,

Coen van Niersen

A modern hotel in a good location if you need to be in the business/European Commission area of Brussels. The room was bright, with fresh modern decor, spotlessly clean, had Wifi that worked well and was free, and facilities to connect your laptop to the 42-inch flat screen TV (if you don't have the necessary cables, they are available from reception). The bed was extremely comfortable, with a lovely soft duvet and pillows. There was a good supply of toiletries and soft towels, tea and copy making facilities, free bottles of water, a room safe, and an iron and ironing board. And if you don't want your room made up in the morning, you can notify the hotel and they will either make a donation to UNICEF or give you a 5 Euro discount on food. The hotel doesn't have a restaurant, but in the main lobby it's possible to buy snacks, fruit, juice drinks etc. Behind the reception desk is a large lounge with a bar and pool table. As others ave noted, breakfast is limited, but there are a number of lovely little restaurants in the area.

Hi Bigfoot34,

That is a correct and, in my opinion, objective description of the hotel - thanks for that. There is not much to add. Let me just elaborate a bit more on the area as although the direct surrounding of the hotel is quiet and thus offers you a good night sleep, not far away are many great options for food and drinks. Less then a 5 mins walk away is Place Jourdan with numerous restaurants and Brussels' best fries shop. Close to the parliament is the Place Luxembourg which is THE hotspot for Eurocrats on Wednesday and Thursday evenings and furthermore there are numerous other restaurant and bar options around the area. Something for everybody from upscale to low barrier.

Hope to see you back soon! Have an easy breezy day.

I have stayed here a lot over the last few years on business.

It is a clean and comfortable hotel.

The décor is modern and the furniture is what I would class as trendy and functional.

The rooms are very well appointed and for some reason I always sleep very well when I stay here.

You don't get much of a breakfast here. It is kind of like an upmarket Travelodge in this respect.

Hi UkCrockett,

Thanks for these valuable comments and of course for staying with us so often these past three years that we have been alive and kicking. It is great to read that you enjoy such a good sleep every time you are with us - that's exactly where we have placed a lot of focus! The mattress is custom made for Aloft and the design of the room is so that it makes you relax before you doze away.

Hopefully we will see you back soon!

Have an easy breezy day.
