I travel to Brussels frequently, and Aloft is my first choice. The location is great, the decor is nice, bright and modern, the staff are friendly and competent, and everything just works right. The free wifi is essential and works everywhere in the hotel, and the setup with a snack shop next to the reception means that you can get something to drink or to munch on 24 hours a day.

I stayed in the Aloft for business recently. I was told at check-in the usual swipe of card would be taken as security but not actually charged, and payment would be on check-out as usual.
However, the hotel's practice is to actually charge the pre-authorisation (of the €149 rate plus €25 security=€174) and to ALSO charge ANOTHER payment (of the €149 rate) on check-out, and then a week or so later the pre-authorisation is supposed to be refunded to your bank account!
So, instead of just paying the €149 rate, they took €323 from my account in total! And when I phoned (had to phone several times to get help with this), they told me the €174 pre-authorisation would return to my account in a week or so!
If I had known this in advance I certainly would have chosen another hotel, because I can't afford to be without €179 for a week (out of my own money - I can't claim this part back from my company).
This seems to me to be a crazy practice and I am very annoyed. I just wanted to warn others.
Also, this hotel is part of a group of hotels; the SPG group, so please be warned, this may happen in those hotels also.

Hi Business T,

First of all I am sorry to hear that you have been inconvenienced to such a great extend as a result of staying with us at the Aloft. Naturally it is not in any way our aim to deliberately discomfort you and especially not through such sensitive ways as payments.

Let me explain to you what happened.
Upon check-in, we ask you for a credit card authorization or cash deposit that covers the room rate and any incidentals that are not covered in your reservation. This is normal; practically every hotel in the world does this. Upon check-out, you will be refunded the difference of your cash deposit if there is one, or the unused authorized amount on your credit card will be released instantly.

In your case, you chose to use a debit card, not a credit card. Debit cards do not allow amounts to be reserved on them, like is the case with credit cards - they only allow amounts to be deducted. When you checked out with us, the hotel directly instructed a release of the difference of the unused amount to your bank. Unfortunately these take much longer then is the case with credit cards and can take up to 2 weeks to be returned to you. Hence our request to guests to always use credit cards instead of debit cards.

Our accounting department and front office team, whom have been in contact with you already shortly after your stay, have verified this release and guarantee that your bank will release the amount as soon as their policies allow.

Ms Business T, my apologies for the somewhat technical explanation. We do strongly empathize with your situation and know how inconvenienced you are. As indicated, the hotel has no direct influence over this however we do wish a quick resolution of this as much as you do.

My very best regards,

Coen van Niersen

A modern hotel in a good location if you need to be in the business/European Commission area of Brussels. The room was bright, with fresh modern decor, spotlessly clean, had Wifi that worked well and was free, and facilities to connect your laptop to the 42-inch flat screen TV (if you don't have the necessary cables, they are available from reception). The bed was extremely comfortable, with a lovely soft duvet and pillows. There was a good supply of toiletries and soft towels, tea and copy making facilities, free bottles of water, a room safe, and an iron and ironing board. And if you don't want your room made up in the morning, you can notify the hotel and they will either make a donation to UNICEF or give you a 5 Euro discount on food. The hotel doesn't have a restaurant, but in the main lobby it's possible to buy snacks, fruit, juice drinks etc. Behind the reception desk is a large lounge with a bar and pool table. As others ave noted, breakfast is limited, but there are a number of lovely little restaurants in the area.

Hi Bigfoot34,

That is a correct and, in my opinion, objective description of the hotel - thanks for that. There is not much to add. Let me just elaborate a bit more on the area as although the direct surrounding of the hotel is quiet and thus offers you a good night sleep, not far away are many great options for food and drinks. Less then a 5 mins walk away is Place Jourdan with numerous restaurants and Brussels' best fries shop. Close to the parliament is the Place Luxembourg which is THE hotspot for Eurocrats on Wednesday and Thursday evenings and furthermore there are numerous other restaurant and bar options around the area. Something for everybody from upscale to low barrier.

Hope to see you back soon! Have an easy breezy day.

I have stayed here a lot over the last few years on business.

It is a clean and comfortable hotel.

The décor is modern and the furniture is what I would class as trendy and functional.

The rooms are very well appointed and for some reason I always sleep very well when I stay here.

You don't get much of a breakfast here. It is kind of like an upmarket Travelodge in this respect.

Hi UkCrockett,

Thanks for these valuable comments and of course for staying with us so often these past three years that we have been alive and kicking. It is great to read that you enjoy such a good sleep every time you are with us - that's exactly where we have placed a lot of focus! The mattress is custom made for Aloft and the design of the room is so that it makes you relax before you doze away.

Hopefully we will see you back soon!

Have an easy breezy day.

Good neibourghood, close to Parliament, nice restaurant with healthy food round the corner. Close to Schuman station where stops the bus from airport. During weekends the bus 21 for airport stops on Froissard street 100 m from the hotel! Nice park across the street. Rooms are beautiful, like an apartment. You got free bottles of water, you can boil the water and make some tea or coffee in the room! Big plasma on the wall. I loved it.

Room Tip: rooms on the small street Juste Lipse are quieter, and better to take higher floors

very positive experience. Everything from the overall look and feel, to simple things like coffee making facilities in the room made this a really nice and easy stay for me. Stayed earlier this week, and as I'm back next week I've already booked again, which is as good as I can say. Looking forward to staying again already!

Hi daftpunk,

So glad you had a good time you stayed with us recently. The devil is in the detail they say and so it seems the coffee & tea facilities, but undoubtfully also many other things, did it for you. We're so glad you have decided to come back again and look forward to making your upcoming stay at least as enjoyable as last time.

Thanks for writing so positive about us and have an easy breezy day!

We stayed at this property over the weekend. It is conveniently located just off downtown, an excellent option for some peace and quiet in a green area but with a metro station a short walk away and a bus stop just steps from the entrance door. Bus 27 takes you straight to the Gare du Midi if you need to catch the shuttle service to Brussels South Charleroi airport. European institutions in the immediate vicinity. Check-in and check-out took no longer than a few minutes, staff was corteous and forthcoming with information on local transportation. Rooms have modern clean lines and no unnecessary clutter, comfy beds and sleek bathroom spaces with a large shower. Free wifi in the room and in all public areas. You can have breakfast or grab a quick bite in a self-serve area in the lobby, free bottled water is availabe in the room. To sum up, a well-priced, tech-savvy facility which will definitely get my business again in the coming weeks.

Hi Kovceg S,

How nice to read that you will be coming back again shortly! Make sure to reserve via our own website for the best rate guarantee and to secure your SPG points.

You seem to have really figured out the public transport options around us. There are plenty, from airport buses, metro, trains or simply a nice walk to discover the city center.

Looking forward to having you back and in the meantime, have an easy breezy day.
