“Great hotel”
Reviewed June 2, 2012

Aloft is a new breed of modern, yet affordable hotels and this was our first stay in one of this brand. Aloft is Brussels is a new hotel and is well located close to Schuman metro station. This is a nice area. We traveled with kids on this trip and had two large, comfortable rooms. We all really liked this hotel. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and very helpful.

This hotel is right next to Schuman station on the metro. It takes around 10 minutes to get there from the Eurostar area. Taxi averages around €18 and metro €2.

The hotel allowed us to check in 4 hours earlier than stated. They gave us our request of top floor with a nice view. I thought that they were accommodating from the get go. Whenever I needed help or wanted a European adaptor they were ready to help efficiently.

Inside the rooms were immaculate. I was impressed with the iron and ironing board. The TV was big. To watch a movie was no more than €4. They had a few popular choices. Kids and adult friendly. If you don't want you room cleaned, each day you refuse, they give you €5 to spend in the bar or food area downstairs. This was good as less resources were used to clean the hotel. Overall inside the rooms are exactly like the pictures on the website.

There is a mini bar downstairs which is reasonably priced too. Friendly bar staffed made our break more enjoyable. Happy hour is buy one get one free. Every Wednesday there is a new bar theme. I'd recommended a group to go because the bar was often quiet. It needed some more people to keep it going. If the bar isn't for you, there is a small gym in the basement which has a few treadmills and cross trainers. Very clean and modern too.

The location is good for some local restaurants, parks and museums. Although in my opinion they aren't as good as the ones in the city centre (which is about 20minutes away).

Overall, a lovely, contemporary hotel. I am booking to go back with a bigger group in July 2012 as I enjoyed my stay there so much.

Tips:

Request the top floor. I heard nothing plus the view is nice.

Buy 72 hours metro and bus pass for €13.

The Aloft hotel is excellent value for money.. Immauate, contemporary and vibrant. It has a beautiful lobby area, where the staff are very friendly and helpful. They have an excellent entertainment area where you can purchase drinks, play pool, table football and have fun on the wii. The drinks depending on what you order can be a little pricey for example a double JD and coke can set you back €18.50 but a glass of house rose is only €3.50. The rooms are beautiful, no faults in this area. The room had a large screen tv which had a sufficient number of channels and docking ports for iPods/ laptops. The shower, toilet and sink area, were inpressivley clean. The shower also had shower gel and shampoo, which was great as I forgot to pack mine. The room also had some nice accessories such as an iron and ironing board and large windows for natural light and air conditioning. Beds are extremely l comfortable/ spacious and the room provides an adequate area to store/ hang clothes. It also offers free wifi, which is a beautiful little touch. There is an incentive the hotel runs which you can get a €5 voucher if you don't get your room serviced per day, which is great if you don't spend much time in it and don't get to dirty. This voucher can be used at the bar downstairs. The hotel also had a nice little gym area, which I never got to use unfortunately.

The only two negatives about this hotel are the food and location. The food Aloft offers is very basic, limited in options and comes with a weird pricing system. If you want a sufficient lunch or dinner you would have to wander away from the hotel. This again causes a problem as there is not many decent restaurants nearby (walking distance) and all the ones that are, are very similar. WORD OF WARNING i would not recommend eating from Maison Antonie. This take away is supposedly famous for it chips and boasts a 60 year history, I found it to be the closest takeaway to the hotel. The food is reasonably priced, but the quality is poor. It was very bland and dry, overall just not very nice. I also found a hair in my food and the staff handle everything (no tongs or gloves). One staff member touched cooked meat and then went and touched raw meat. The location of Aloft itself is not really walking distance from the Grand Place unless you like walking for 30-40mins. The Schuman (metro station) is though close to the hotel and is very efficient and quick, unlike London underground. But with the location i am possibly being a little harsh as I am use to everything on my doorstep.

Overall I would 100% happily stay at Aloft again if I ever came to Brussels again and highly recommend it to others. Actually is was so good and Brussels is such a beautiful place I plan to come again in the next few months.

Our experience was very different from those of lower ratings. We arrived on a Friday morning and left Sunday morning. Upon arrival at 7 a.m. after an 8 hour flight from Africa, we had no problems checking into our room. Staff was friendly, helpful and efficient. The room was clean, modern and nicely appointed. There were toiletries including shampoo and body wash in the shower, a blow dryer, coffee/tea/bottled water. We showered and were back out on the street by 8:30 a.m. to go sightseeing. We didn't have breakfast that was offered the first morning. We opted for breakfast at a cafe that offered more choices. The second morning before catching the bus to the airport we had breakfast. It was fine with plenty of choices: a selection of dry cereals, fresh fruit, pastries, waffles, yogurt, juice, milk, etc.. It is similar if not better than American hotels that offer a continental breakfast.

We returned around 7 p.m. both evenings which was over a weekend (Friday and Saturday night). I don't remember any music the first night and the second there was music but it wasn't so loud you couldn't have a normal conversation. My husband has problems with hearing and it wasn't a problem. We were on the 5th floor and had gotten a special online rate of 59Euro's per night that included a king size bed. I hit the bed that first night and slept nine hours. I never sleep nine hours! It was wonderful!!

Aloft was excellent value. My husband who travels 70% of the time and often stays in the Mariott or similar hotels was very impressed. His comments were that if there was a choice, he would stay at Aloft. It was one block from the bus for the airport, a block and a half to the metro which was only four or five stops to Central Station. The first day we walked down to the old section of the city and the second day to we took the metro to Central Station and then the train to Brugge. We did not find the location to be an issue.

Overall I would most definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: we were on the 5th floor and did not hear anything from guests or equipment.

I've become a fan of the Aloft hotels in general. The quality is consistent without sacrificing a local feel. I found the Brussels staff very helpful, friendly and accommodating, and the location was convenient to the metro and everything else you need to get to in Brussels.

Hi Thomas O,

So you are a true fan of Aloft?! Thanks very much and great to see your staying with us around the globe. We are indeed not far from the main sites in the Capital - give yourself about 30-40 minutes by foot and you should be on the famous Grand Place.

There are many insider places as well though so make sure to check with our a-list front desk team - they will show you where to go!

Have an easy breezy day.

Hotel is located at a convenient location, easy to find and within walking distance to ths main attractions. Staff were very helpful in providing information. Room was clean and very spacious.

Free wifi is available in the entire hotel and they even provided two computers at the lobby for guest use. They even allow you to print for free on their printer (if its less than 10pages) though they don't really count the pages...

Tip for those who are leaving the hotel to go to the Brussels zudistation Gare du midi : you can take bus 27 that is right outside the hotel (no need to lug your heavy luggage up and down the metro and stairs as not all metro stations have lift or escalator)

Hi Watery83,

Besides it being convenient we think it's great you took the green way of going about Brussels as well. The hotel has excellent public transport connections in and out of town with 2 metro stations, buses to the city center and out to the airport, villo bikes, etc in front of the door so plenty of options.

Have an easy breezy day!
