“Budget hotel with last minute availability”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2011

And really, that's the only reason we stayed there. The hotel had availability for a last minute booking and was definitely affordable. We took advantage of the shuttle from the hotel to the Bourse and I don't think we would've walked back at night. The area is definitely a little sketchy (empty shops, run down buildings, etc), but not littered with thugs on every corner. We did lock up our bags with a PacSafe in the room, just in case. Breakfast was good with a decent spread, and the aforementioned shuttle ran on time with no problems. Walls in the room are absolutely paper thin and you hear everything outside the room. As far as decor, it's in need of new carpet, paint, and the bathroom was a little moldy - but the're all signs that it's an old building in need of a serious upgrade.
Bottom line: If you have to stay here, it's doable, especially on a budget, or for a last minute trip, just don't expect anything beyond the basics.

Van Belle is definately a Budget Hotel, no frills. In earlier days it must have been a fantastic old establishment which has now lost its charm. My friend and I stayed here for only one night on the way to Bruges.. The area around the Hotel has also seen better days and is now rundown. I must admit I felt insecure here. The Bedroom was well worn, as is most of the upstairs. The downstairs is huge and modern but void of clients so no atmosphere. Staff were few. Breakfast was wholesome. We took a taxi from Brussels Midi Station to the Hotel which cost 8 euro.It is easily walkable but because of advice, on the time we were arriving it was safer to Taxi to the Hotel, we arrived at 7pm, a return to the Station the following morning was by a complimentary mini bus from the Hotel. The Hotel did its job for the one night, but I would not go there again.

We choose this hotel becaouse we needed a room next to the Bruxelles internation South Train Station, it is located in the arab district, not that we have had any problem there, however I would not suggest to go around at night alone.

The Hotel is OK, in the sense that it is what you need to visit Bruxelles city centre and museums without paying too much money.

Rooms are clean, but old and the same is true for the other areas. It offers a very convenient parking for €10/day.

Breakfast is included, the quality is sufficient

We stayed 14 days and were given a large room facing the back of the building. The hotel is located at 15 minutes walking distance from the main train station Gare du Midi and 20 minutes from La Grand Place. The Anderlecht District is very ethnic which provides a multitude of Restaurants, Baking and Pastry Shops, Fruits and Vegetables, etc...The meals we took were great and 50% lower than in the Centre of Brussels. We felt secure to walk in that District.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room facing the back of the hotel

The hotel is a walking distance to Grand Palace although looks like it's not safe to walk at night because it's so quiet and dark. Their free buffet breakfast was fantastic, there are so many choices from bread, egg, ham and coffee.

Second time we stayed here. Good value breakfast as much as you can eat continental breakfast. Also have a shuttle bus to pick you up from train station and take you back. Also shuttle bus to take and collect to centre of Brussels. Taxi back from centre was around 8 - 10 euros for four people. Staff very friendly. Area a bit dodgy at night.
