This hotel is not at the top of the Stelvio pass - but on the Italian side - with great views of the winding road up, the nearby glacier-topped mountains and a field full of Marmots!

The rooms are a nice alpine-style (don't expect 4* bathroom). They cooked us a vegetarian 3 course meal - which was pretty good. However the staff don't seem to speak English or Italian (expect the friendly woman who checked us in). Breakfast is pretty good (but don't expect a massive choice).

Room Tip: ask for a room with a view up the mountain

This is a wonderful hotel with a view up the Stelvio pass. You can sit on the terrace and listen and watch the supercars driving up the pass and the marmots on the hill side. I have never stayed in a hotel where you can watch marmots from your bedroom! The rooms are very good, swiss/scandinavian style and there is a small but pleasant swiming pool (I had it to myself). The staff are very friendly, but hardly speak English, but German (in Italy!). The food was very good, five courses and they made us a vegetarian meal. The breakfast was the weakest part of the Hotel, is was OK, but a bit basic. Overall this hotel is a unique experience, highly recommended.

After a long drive and the disappointment of the Stelvio pass being closed, we got to hairpin 22 took are photos and found this lovely hotel.
Our lack of any Europeian language other than 'English slower and louder' left us slightly worried but the manager greeted us warmly and asked us what we wanted to eat :)

Fantastic steak, beautiful mushroom tagliatelle freshly prepared and delicious.
A lovely evening was had had and will be again.

Made a pit stop here after driving over the Stelvio Pass. Did not stay the night but ate in the bar. Incredible apple strudel made right in the kitchen. also very good soup and beverages to warm you. Very reasonable prices.

My colleague and I arrived at Berghotel Franzenshoehe late yesterday after a very long day of hiking. Even though it was after dinnertime had ended, Karen the manager recognized our distress and arranged for us to be fed a sumptuous meal. The vegetable strudel was wonderful, followed by a thick soup made from red pepper, then a nicely done beef fillet, topped off by a flan (?) with berry sauce. Marie, our waitress, was very attentive and nice, helping us bridge the language barrier, and made the meal extra special. And kudos to the Chef, who produced such a meal on short notice. I will definitely be returning in the future.
