“Not a wink of sleep!”

Yes it's a backpackers.... but you could hear every footstep in this dive. It was like a heard of baby elephants were running through the hallways and hyenas were giggling in the room next door from 10 - after midnight (on a Wednesday night). Location is good but if you're a light sleeper do not stay here. Rooms are basic and hot (bring your own towel).

The staff in this place are useless there no help whatsoever, there arrogant , and there hardly ever there, there rude. You have to pay for milk they rent the lounge out when the place is full. Met some decent people tho just a shame on the staff! The ping pong table and equipment is a joke.rant over ! Ps it rained for four days solid !!

Literally a 2minute walk to the amazing bondi beach! The hostel itself was awesome, I was originally meant to be there for 1 week and ended up staying for 3.5 weeks. Great place to meet new people.very social. Great outdoor area with BBQ and Ping pong table. TV room with big tv. Good working showers always with hot water. I loved it!! Stay here!!!

One of the main reasons we booked this place was because it was advertised with free parking. The guy at reception was extremely rude, and possibly drunk, told us to park up the road for free. After driving around for nearly an hour there was definitely no free parking in Bondi. When we spoke to another guy at reception he said the same again, go up the road, but after speaking to a local Bondi resident it was obvious surfside either don't have a clue or are complete liars. There is no free parking in Bondi!

We book a 8 bed dorm, which they managed to squeeze 9 people into as one was a 'double bed'. There was no room for anyone's bags and at night it was so hot I woke up several times and had to go for a walk outside. There was no air con in the room just one lousy floor fan that blew air out in one direction. Seriously the most hottest, uncomfortable dorm I have ever stayed in!

The toilet doors had a large gap in them, so people could look in whilst you're in there, weird! The showers would overflow and the whole bathroom would flood. Literally water would be everywhere.

The staff there were never helpful, we're extremely condescending and over all just rude. I could not wait to leave that place.

So to begin my story I would have to go as far back as August which is where it all begun.

My friend and I had booked 10 nights over Christmas and New Year at this establishment, knowing FULL WELL that during that time of year accommodation would be hard to come by. We didn't give it another thought until I called the night before enquiring about an airport transfer. The Owner Richard refused to believe I even had a booking and starting to debate with me about it even though I had the confirmation email right in front of me. I booked through a company called VIP Backpackers, who were lovely and really helped me out.

Richard then explained that VIP Backpackers had messed up and that he couldn't accommodate my friend and I but he could for 3 nights then we would have to move to Coogee for 5 then that was it. I spent ages on the phone trying to come up with a solution until I gave in and said that's fine but I'd rather just stay at Coogee if possible but for the inconvenience can you give us a free shuttle pickup as an apology for the mess up. He erupted with laughter and refused to let me speak or justify my question.

Apparently I had been offered a rate of $33 dollars a night for the 10 nights I was due there and I was told to keep it very discrete and not speak to ANYONE about how much we had paid. (All because Richard had neglected to inform the booking company the change of rate during the holiday season.) And because of this 'luxury' we were getting we were laughed at and refused a free shuttle service.

Richard then HUNG UP on me after he exchange a few harsh offensive words to me.

I called the company VIP Backpackers and they were very helpful and apologetic and apparently Richard had admitted to them he made the mistake afterall but he failed to mention his rude attitude towards me and the fact he hung up the phone.

THE OWNER IS A NASTY, MONEY GRABBING MAN AND SHOULD LEARN TO DROP AN ESTABLISHMENT IF IT CANNOT BE RUN TO THE STANDARD THE GOVERNMENT SET.

After reading a lot of the reviews I am now RELIEVED not to spend my Christmas and New Years here.

I am still waiting for my refund. Absolute fraud. DO NOT BOOK HERE!

I would have liked to stay here because if their location and actually made an online booking but could not get a confirmation. I tried calling numerous times, only to be told that they were looking into it. I waited patiently until the night before at 8:30pm and just decided I better book elsewhere. I would not stay here now ever because if they run their hostel like they run the bookings and phone calls I am not interested.

Guy who runs it is so friendly but firm so ruins are kept clean and more organised than the place I am currently staying in a different city which has been left with all the people's rubbish and tv boxes from the last decade! The fact we arrive at 7.30 am and had to wait until 2pm to get our beds and all they have done is put a sheet and pillow case on. At surfside you get clean matching sheets and a quilt. Another amazing stay right in the beach that always looks incredible. Thank you. Xxx
