Staff at reception were very friendly, couldnt check in straight away the room needed cleaning, got to the room a 6 shared female the Hoover had not even seen the floor!!! Plus you had girls virtually living there so clothes everywhere. The kitchen was too small and cramped and the toilets were not the cleanest. But on the upside only 10 mins or so away from Bondi Beach very good location.

Compared to other YHAs this was a huge letdown for $70 a night for a double shared. It was quiet but out of season. Room was cold and damp, no heating provided, weren't told about additional bedding. Plug sockets near the ceiling!!! Bed ok, no bed bugs thankfully. Kitchen big and adequate but lacked some basics. Check in friendly and efficient. TV/Common room filthy and smelly and stank of smoke. As non-smokers we couldn't use the facilities it was that bad. Laundry a bit pricey $4 to wash. Going through some revamp but I would suspect nowhere near what it needs. Hostel does do a lot of nice things like meals, free lollies and other stuff like free surfboards etc. No drinking after 9pm but people in rooms next to. Did complain about the standard and cleanliness and to be fair I had a response which has been dealt with so I would hope future guests get a better experience. Having now been to Manly, I'd recommend staying there instead until this YHA vastly improves.

Location of this hostel is fantastic, only a few minutes walk to both Tamarama and Bondi beach. Stayed in double room which was lovely and had really nice view of Tamarama beach. Staff were really friendly too. Only bad thing was that we had bed bugs (which staff told us were sand fly or mosquito bites but Chemist confirmed they were bed bugs). Think we were just unfortunate with the bed bugs, hostel was fab in every other way though!

Stayed for 1 week at the hostel and really enjoyed it. It is close to the beach and the free surfboards were relly good. Travelling alone I found it easy to meet people and the staff were able to answer all my questions and were really friendly. The view from the deck is deffinately a bonus and the walk to Bronte takes only about 30 mins. The kitchen is a little small, I found the bathrooms clean and will deffinately come visit again before I go home.

I was surprised reading the other reviews that no one had noted the really inadequate bathroom and cooking facilities for a hostel of this size. You need to produce a $10 deposit EACH to use a basic cutlery, we lined up for about half an hour to get ours...which dirty and sorted on the floor where the guy at the front desk had just been walking around with no shoes on....yumm appetising.

The kitchen really is small, not set up for groups to cook, the appliances were from the ark and the staff seemed to 'own' it with special doors and areas just for themselves.

We stayed on the 2nd maybe 3rd floor...which would have to have one of the worst bathroom setups I have ever seen. There were only two toilets and showers on the whole floor...and both the shower and loo were in one cubical with ONE shared hand basin for all. Meaning that if two people were having a shower there was no toilet available, and you have to try to get clean in a small space shared with a pretty nasty toilet. It also meant that people taking a dump were washing there hands over the poor people brushing there teeth or having a shave...a great way to get really sick.

It turned out there were proper bathrooms on the ground floor...was a real shame no one told us they were there and we found them just as we were checking out!

We must have spent 2 hours in the constant cue at the front desk over our one night stay at the hostel. They were really understaffed and since you have to ask at the front desk to even use a knife and fork....Don't try checking in or out in a hurry.

I think they are just lax because Bondi is such a great place to visit they don’t have to try very hard.
