“Local Pizza place - always busy”

Basic fit-out but the food is good, servings generous and prices are not too bad. A locals hang, not a tourist trap. Enjoy!

“A little bit of Napoli in Bondi!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2012

What do I like about Gelbisons'...well everything to be honest!Nick the owner is originally from Naples and runs the restaurant with his two sons watching over everything to make sure none of the quality suffers. The first thing you notice in here is how small the restaurant is but somehow they manage to fit so many people in....the reason..simple the food! The favourite and house special here is mussels..not your normal run of the mill ones, but mussels ozzing flavours of garlic, tomatoes,a little chili and the most amazing tasting broth...'Zuppa De Cozze' this is called and either entry size or main size they are just the perfect way to taste Nicks cooking..Garlic prawns are loaded up with garlic and fresh out of the oven..again just so succulent and a perfect way to start your meal..not too heavy!I Don't know where Nick gets his tomatoes from but the Bruschetta is to die for..again not too heavy for a starter. The pizza needless to say should be and is good considering where the owners origins lie..another house speciallity here is the 'potatoe and garlic' pizza, along with every other filling and fresh ingrediants you can imagine(27 different pizzas at the last count)My favourite pasta is 'Pasta All'Aurora'cooked with olive oil, shallots and succulent king prawns in a pink sauce..probably my only complaint is the main course is too much and the entry size not enough...Some people are hard to please I know! There are near enough to 20 plus pasta dishes on Gelbisons menu..talk about spoilt for choice and the usual Lasagna dishes(homemade meat and vegetarian)The veal dishes I seldom have tried so can't comment on them to be honest...but always share their home made Tiramisu as it's just too much for one.A few tips for Gelbisons....Booking is a necessity if you don't get there early(opens 5pm till late)don't lob up there at 10-30pm and expect to be seated !On Friday/Saturday nights the early crowd tends to be families with their children so if you are allergic to kids after 7-30pm is probably a good time to dine..The restaurant is also BYO...for those of you overseas this is 'Bring Your Own' Alcohol...so buy your wine/beer etc.. before you front up as the local bottle shop is a good 15 minute round trip to stock up(the Bondi Hotel)there is a 2$ corkage fee per person. To find Gelbisons' look for 'Lamrock Ave'on Bondi Beach...and The St George Bank...it is directly next door to there. From Bondi Junction catch the 380/333 bus and exit at the first stop coming around the bend into Bondi Beach(look for the Juice Bar)it is just down the street there.Enjoy!

“Our old reliable favourite”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2012

You can't go wrong with the pizza's from this place. Cheap and oh so tasty. Quick, friendly and always bustling. No wonder this place is always packed. Book a table or you may be waiting a while.
