“Times of yore, in literary Argentina”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

Beautiful mansion. Take the guided tours, they are one-hour long and give you an excellent overview of Victoria Ocampo's times and life. Go to the shop and buy a "Sur" magazine, where all the brightest minds of that time collaborated and published.

My experience with the cafeteria was really bad. Old dishware, waiters had their uniform dirty and untidy. Service wasn't very welcoming. So, if you get hungry, wait, and go outside.

“Terrific guided tour of an one-time artistic mecca”
Reviewed July 12, 2013

You can easily take the train to Villa Ocampo and then walk about seven blocks until you get to what was once a center for both national and international artists of all sorts. Our tour guide was informative and engaging and the grounds are lovely. The gift shop sells books by the Ocampo sisters, some Sur magazines and such. There's a restaurant too, though I didn't eat there. A nice change of pace from the bustle of the city.

“Incredible place owned by an incredible woman”
Reviewed May 28, 2012

Victoria Ocampo was an amazing woman, writer, intellectual, described by Borges as "the quintessential Argentine woman". So her house has her energy and you can really feel it!
and the surrounding areas are beautiful!! you can arrange a ride to tigre or to delta.

“Amazing place, just be sure you speak Spanish”
Reviewed May 12, 2012

Went here with one limited-Spanish friend and one English-only friend (I'm fluent). The place is AMAZING, but you can't get the full weight of the history and the importance of the place if you don't have someone with you who can translate for you. There is a tour, but it's only in Spanish. We had a great time, enjoyed the beautiful house, beautiful grounds, great stories about the house and Victoria Ocampo, the lady who owned it. If you're non-Spanish speaking (or don't have a translator though, it's just a pretty house.)
I suppose you could always read up on it before you get there.
