“steps and devotion”

This hotel is like sicily, it pretends, you look away, you look again and it surprises you.
Definitly just local 4 stars you will find it in good but not perfect shape, a devoted staff, an uninspired breakfast-coordinator, a fish-loving cook and lots of nice places to rest on this wide spacy place to enjoy the view.
The rooms are okay, with old fashioned furniture and clean bathrooms. The sea view is not satisfying in the lower appartments but marvellous on the top floors and up the hill. There you will have to walk a lot, distances are exhausting between pool, restaurant and reception.
Overall I would stay there again.

Guests are mainly German. English, German, Spanish spoken.

Room Tip: Sea View on the first floor !!

The wide range of different opinions about this hotel is quite understandable after spending a week here from 13 to 20 October. We were rather sceptical if we would enjoy the week here after a week of touring with generally satisfactory hotels, but on the whole we were able to enjoy the days here and returned with a more positive impression than when we arrived.

The middle of October is most definitely after the end of the season in Italy. There were a number of young Italian families staying at the same time but most of the guests came from Germany and had booked like us through Berge & Meer. The staff at reception showed a lot of patience - and diverse language skills in checking in our coachload of German tourists with ten thousand questions and special requests. Arriving relatively early in the day, our rooms were not immediately ready and after a brief tour of the hotel site with two of the remaining animation staff we were sent off to lunch before picking up the room keys.
The coach groups with all inclusive light were allotted tables on one side of the restaurant which were then given a sign with the names and remained our table for the rest of the week. No change of scenery if it turns out that you are next to the doors to the toilets or the trolleys for the used crockery. As long as you aren't in a hurry - which were certainly weren't - the system with the dispensing machines for soft drinks and beer and wine on the neighbouring tables worked well enough. One waiter explained that the wine was served in glasses after the guests started filling plastic water bottles when they had used barrels with a tap similar to those we had encountered elsewhere. The main courses at lunch and dinner were generally satisfactory, the deserts were excellent. The absence of fresh local products on an island where the fruit and vegetables were on offer by the crate on countless street corners ws a huge disappointment. Why does this hotel offer South African pears and Spanish oranges?

The first room we were given was relatively disappointing. We had specifically booked a room with a seaview and admittedly our room was on the sea side of a terraced house in what they call the "Hibiscus Villas". It was on the same level as the restaurant and just down one relatively easy flight of steps from the reception and probably ideal for guests who can't cope with the steep slopes elsewhere. The palm tree in front of the balcony blocked the seaview to the left and straight ahead, a several-metre-high chain link fence and floodlight masts ruined the outlook to the right in the direction of Taormina. It was immediately clear that we didn't want to stay seven nights in this room.

Unfortunately we weren't the only guests who were dissatisfied with the accommodation they had been allotted. Fellow guests from our group who were not so mobile had one of the rooms furthest from reception and the restaurant. In at least two houses modernisation work had already started and was understandably causing noise and irritation for the adjoining rooms. As Sunday is the day for Berge and Meer guests and at least three different coachfuls arrived that day, the ladies at reception asked us to wait till the next day and we had to postpone unpacking our suitcases till the following afternoon.
The wait proved well worthwhile as we had a room on the second floor of house 1800, one of the "Oleander Villas" with a beathtaking view up and down the coastline. Over the next five days we greatly enjoyed the constantly changing light and the beckoning lights from Taormina.

We had been hoping to make use of the access to the sea described in the travel brochures, but had been warned via this site that it was no longer possible in the autumn. At the hotel we were told that the coastguards had closed the swimming platform for safety reasons. The view from the locked gate at the top of the steps was not particularly enticing.
The shuttle bus to the lido in the next town, Letojanni, suspended service on the Sunday that we arrived so that meant resorting to the local bus service which stopped once an hour outside the entrance to the hotel. We discovered by chance that not every bus in the other direction actually entered the town, but just stopped on request on the main road on the other side of the coastal railway line.
The only simple opportunity for swimming were the two swimmingpools on the hotel site, one with "animation" the other for "dolce vita". At this end of the season the second pool was virtually deserted, had an ideal temperature and a spectacular backdrop.

All in all we enjoyed or holiday here. The staff did a lot to help us - especially when my wife was ill one day. Nevertheless they continually seemed to be fighting with senseless company policies which didn't allow them to react spontaneously to situations in the restaurant and at reception. The lift had a sign "Out of Service" on the second day but we didn't see anybody working to repair it all the time we were there. The room exclusively reserved for Berge & Meer guests was not cleaned all week and the sticky soft drinks spilt on the tiles were still there on the last morning. Although tables were empty for several days it was difficult to change the seating arrangements in the restaurant. Coffee was not available at lunch and dinner even at a charge , we had you move to the bar. At breakfast it was available at a variety of machine each of which had a different version of "coffee with milk". It was all a question of taste.

Room Tip: Oleander villas , first or second floor, facing the coast - but it's a steep walk back after a g...

My wife and I went on a trip to Sicily. We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights. the hotel offers great breakfast- with various of things to eat. That and more-there is a nice beach for the guests and a very good swimming pool. We had a car, but for those who dont- it will be a bit difficult to find your out to the nearest town- Taurmina.
We asked for a room with a sea overview and we got one- the view from the balcone was beautiful. The room was clean and well maintained (the bed is on a gallery floor).
Overall- great value for the money- a very good hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a view to the sea

For the first time in my life i got a food poisoning from the dinner buffet in the hotel . me my mother and my brother all at the same night lost sleep , spent the night with cold feevers and threw up several times. Do not come to this hotel . unless you want to spend it in bed feeling sick. other then that the hotel is full of stipp pathways with not much handicap accessesbility , the water and other drinks costs money and are not included in the hotel dinners and breakfast . the hotel is far from town and with almost no public transportation . the only thing which are good in this hotel are the view and the rooms

We stayed here for 2 nights on our group trip and found it to be a very interesting Hotel incrusted upon a Mountain overlooking the Sea. It was quite difficult to get to our room with a walk in a very steep climb , and to go down quite dangerous . Once on the room it was small but it was nice . There was free wi-fi only in the lobby so we did quite a bit of exersize going to our room and coming down to the restaurant and to the lobby , but we enjoyed it . The scenery was beautiful.

We spent our honeymoon at this wonderful place, the time here has been relaxing but at the same time a lot of fun. The couple Makdessi from room 2502 especially want to thank the waiters and chef from the restaurant Rosmarina for their warm welcome, patience, joy, humility, but above all the incredible service and the delicious food. The service overall at this hotel have been good but a bit difficult to communicate in English.

With our kindest regards / Makdessi (2502)
